1 Então, estes três homens cessaram de responder a Jó, porque ele era justo aos seus próprios olhos.2 E acendeu-se a ira de Eliú, filho de Baraquel, o buzita, da família de Rão; contra Jó se acendeu a sua ira, porque se justificava por si mesmo, mais do que por Deus.3 Também contra os seus três amigos a sua ira se acendeu, porque eles não haviam achado resposta, e ainda assim haviam condenado Jó.4 Ora, Eliú esperou até que Jó terminasse de falar, porque eles eram mais velhos do que ele.5 Quando Eliú viu que não havia resposta na boca destes três homens, então sua ira se acendeu.6 E Eliú, filho de Baraquel, o buzita, respondeu e disse: Eu sou jovem, e vós sois muito velhos; portanto, eu tive receio, e não ousei mostrar-lhes minha opinião.7 Eu disse: Os dias deveriam falar, e a multidão dos anos deveria ensinar a sabedoria.8 Mas há um espírito no homem; e a inspiração do Todo-Poderoso lhes dá entendimento.9 Os grandes homens não são sempre sábios, nem os velhos entendem julgamento.10 Portanto, eu disse: Escutai-me. Eu também mostrarei minha opinião.11 Eis que aguardei as vossas palavras; eu dei ouvidos às vossas razões, enquanto buscáveis o que dizer.12 Sim, eu escutei a vós, e eis que não houve nenhum de vós que convencesse Jó, ou que respondesse suas palavras.13 Para que não digais: Nós achamos sabedoria; Deus o derruba, não o homem.14 Ora, ele não dirigiu suas palavras contra mim, nem eu lhe responderei com os vossos discursos.15 Eles estavam atônitos, não responderam mais, eles deixaram de falar.16 Quando eu esperara (pois eles não falavam, mas permaneciam imóveis, e não mais respondiam);17 eu disse: Responderei também a minha parte, também mostrarei minha opinião.18 Porque eu sou cheio de assunto; o espírito dentro de mim me constrange.19 Eis que minha barriga é como um vinho que não tem ventilação, pronta para arrebentar como novos odres.20 Falarei, para que eu me refresque; eu abrirei os meus lábios, e responderei.21 Não permitam que eu, vos rogo, aceite a pessoa de qualquer homem, nem permitam que eu use de lisonjas para com um homem.22 Porque eu não sei usar de lisonjas; se assim fizesse, meu Criador logo me tomaria.

1 So these three men ceased answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.2 Then the wrath of Elihu, the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was kindled against Job; his wrath was kindled because he was justifying his soul more than God.3 Also against his three friends his wrath was kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.4 Now because they were years older than he, Elihu had waited for Job, to speak.5 So when Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of the three men, his wrath was kindled.6 And Elihu, the son of Barachel the Buzite, answered and said: I am young in years, and you are very old; therefore I have shrunk back, and out of respect for you, have not told my opinion.7 I said, Age should speak, and multitude of years should declare wisdom.8 But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.9 Great men are not always wise, nor do the aged always discern justice.10 Therefore I have said, Listen to me; I also will declare my opinion.11 Behold, I waited for your speech, I listened to your reasonings, while you searched out words.12 Yea, I paid attention to you, and behold, not one of you proved Job wrong, nor answered his words;13 lest you should say, We have found wisdom; the Mighty God will drive him out, not man.14 Now he has not directed his words against me; so I will not answer him with your words.15 They have been dismayed and answer no more; they have left off speaking.16 And I have waited, because they did not speak, because they have stood still and answered no more.17 I also will answer my share, I too will declare my opinion.18 For I am full of words; the spirit within me has compelled me.19 Behold, my belly is like wine that has no vent; it is about to split open like new wineskins.20 I will speak, that I may find relief; I must open my lips and answer.21 I will not show partiality to anyone, nor will I flatter any man.22 For I do not know how to flatter, else my Maker would soon take me away.
