1 Como o ouro tornou-se turvo! Como está o mais fino ouro modificado! As pedras do santuário estão despejadas no alto de cada rua.2 Os preciosos filhos de Sião, comparáveis ao fino ouro, como eles são estimados como jarros de barro, o trabalho das mãos do oleiro!3 Até os monstros marinhos estendem o seio; eles dão de mamar às suas crias; a filha do meu povo tornou-se cruel, como as avestruzes no deserto.4 A língua da criança que ainda mama adere-se ao céu da boca por causa da sede; as crianças pedem pão, e nenhum homem o parte para elas.5 Aqueles que se alimentavam delicadamente estão desolados nas ruas; aqueles que foram criados usando carmesim abraçam estercos.6 Pois a punição da iniquidade da filha do meu povo é maior do que a punição do pecado de Sodoma, que foi destruída como em um momento, e nenhuma mão sobre ela permaneceu.7 Os seus nazireus eram mais puros do que a neve, eles eram mais brancos do que o leite, e os seus corpos mais corados do que rubis; o seu polimento era de safira.8 O seu semblante mais negro do que um carvão; eles não são reconhecidos nas ruas; a sua pele adere-se aos seus ossos; está murcha, e torna-se semelhante a uma vara.9 Aqueles que são mortos pela espada são melhores do que aqueles que são mortos pela fome; pois estes definham, atingidos pela falta dos frutos do campo.10 As mãos das mulheres compassivas cozeram os próprios filhos; elas foram a sua carne na destruição da filha do meu povo.11 O SENHOR completou a sua fúria; ele derramou a sua ira violenta e acendeu um fogo em Sião, e isto devorou as suas fundações.12 Os reis da terra e todos os habitantes do mundo, não acreditavam que o adversário e o inimigo adentrariam os portões de Jerusalém.13 Por causa dos pecados dos seus profetas, e das iniquidades dos seus sacerdotes, que derramaram o sangue do justo no meio dela,14 eles perambularam como homens cegos nas ruas; eles poluíram-se com sangue, para que os homens não tocassem as suas vestes.15 Gritavam-lhes: Afastai-vos, é impuro. Afastai-vos, afastai-vos, não toqueis; quando eles fugiram e andaram errantes, disseram entre os pagãos: Eles não mais morarão ali.16 A fúria do SENHOR os dividiu; ele não mais os estimará; eles não respeitaram as pessoas dos sacerdotes, eles não favoreceram os anciãos.17 Quanto a nós, os nossos olhos até agora falharam por causa de nosso vão auxílio; em nossa vigília, esperamos por uma nação que não pôde nos salvar.18 Eles procuram os nossos passos, e nós não podemos ir nas nossas ruas; nosso fim está próximo, nossos dias estão consumados, pois o nosso fim é chegado.19 Nossos perseguidores são mais ligeiros do que as águias do céu; eles nos perseguem sobre os montes, eles preparam uma emboscada para nós no deserto.20 O fôlego das nossas narinas, o ungido do SENHOR, foi tomado nas suas covas, de quem nós dissemos: Sob a sua sombra nós viveremos entre os pagãos.21 Regozije-se e alegre-se, ó filha de Edom, que habita na terra de Uz; o cálice também há de passar e chegar a ti; tu estarás embriagada e te desnudarás.22 A punição de tua iniquidade está consumada, ó filha de Sião; ele não mais te carregará para o cativeiro; ele visitará a tua iniquidade, ó filha de Edom. Ele descobrirá os teus pecados.

1 How the gold has become dim; the fine gold has changed! The stones of the sanctuary are poured out at the head of every street.2 The precious sons of Zion, weighed against refined gold, are counted as earthen vessels, the work of the hands of the potter!3 Even the monsters draw out the breast to suckle their young. But the daughter of my people is cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.4 The tongue of the infant cleaves to the roof of his mouth in thirst; the young children ask for bread; there is none broken to them.5 Those who ate delicacies are desolate in the streets; those brought up in scarlet embrace refuse heaps.6 For the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the sin of Sodom, which was overthrown as in a moment, with no hands to writhe over her.7 Her Nazirites were purer than snow, whiter than milk; they were redder of body than rubies; their polishing as sapphires.8 Their appearance is blacker than soot; they are not recognized in the streets; their skin has shriveled on their bones; it is dried up; it has become like wood.9 Better off are the ones slain by the sword than the ones slain by hunger; for they pine away, pierced through for lack of the fruits of the fields.10 The hands of the compassionate women have boiled their own children; they became their food in the destruction of the daughter of my people.11 Jehovah has fulfilled His fury; He has poured out His fierce anger, and has kindled a fire in Zion, and it has devoured its foundations.12 The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy would have entered the gates into Jerusalem.13 For the sins of her prophets and the iniquities of her priests, shedding the blood of the just in her midst,14 they have wandered as blind men in the streets; they are defiled with blood, so that no one could touch their clothes.15 They cried out to them, Depart! Unclean! Depart, depart! Do not touch us! When they fled and wandered, they said among the nations, They will not continue to live there.16 The face of Jehovah has scattered them out; He will no longer have regard for them; they did not respect the persons of the priests, nor show favor to the elders.17 As for us, our eyes failed, watching in vain for our help; in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.18 They have hunted our steps to keep us from going in our streets; our end was near, our days were fulfilled, for our end has come.19 Our pursuers were swifter than the eagles of the heavens; they pursued us on the mountains, they lay in wait for us in the wilderness.20 The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of Jehovah, was captured in their pits; of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the nations.21 Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, who lives in the land of Uz. The cup also shall pass through unto you; you shall become drunk and stripped naked.22 The punishment of your iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; He will send you into captivity no more. He will punish your iniquity, O daughter of Edom; He will expose your sins.
