1 E quando Balaão viu que agradou ao SENHOR abençoar a Israel, ele não foi, como em outras ocasiões, buscar encantamentos, mas voltou o seu rosto em direção ao deserto.2 E Balaão ergueu os olhos e viu Israel, que permanecia em suas tendas, segundo as suas tribos; e veio sobre ele o Espírito de Deus.3 E ele proferiu a sua parábola, e disse: Fala Balaão, filho de Beor, e fala o homem de olhos abertos;4 fala aquele que ouviu as palavras de Deus, que vê a visão de El-Shaddai, que cai, mas com os olhos abertos:5 Quão boas são as tuas tendas, ó Jacó, e os teus tabernáculos, ó Israel!6 Como vales se estendem, como jardins ao pé dos rios; como árvores de sândalo que o SENHOR plantou, e como cedros junto às águas.7 Ele derramará a água de seus baldes, e a sua semente estará em muitas águas; e o seu rei será maior do que Agague, e o seu reino será exaltado.8 Deus o trouxe do Egito; as suas forças são como as do unicórnio; ele consumirá as nações, seus inimigos, e quebrará seus ossos, e os perfurará com as suas flechas.9 Encurvou-se, deitou-se como um leão, e como um grande leão; quem o despertará? Bendito é aquele que te abençoa, e maldito é aquele que te amaldiçoa.10 E a ira de Balaque se acendeu contra Balaão, e ele bateu as mãos; e Balaque disse a Balaão: Chamei-te para amaldiçoar os meus inimigos; e eis que tu os abençoaste três vezes.11 Agora portanto, foge para o teu lugar; eu pensava honrar-te grandemente, mas o SENHOR te privou desta honra.12 E Balaão disse a Balaque: Não falei eu também aos teus mensageiros, os quais tu me enviaste, dizendo:13 E se Balaque me desse a sua casa cheia de prata e ouro, eu não posso ir além da ordem do SENHOR, fazendo bem ou mal de minha própria mente; mas o que o SENHOR disser, isso eu falarei?14 E agora eis que vou ao meu povo; portanto vem, e eu te advertirei do que este povo fará ao teu povo nos últimos dias.15 E ele proferiu a sua parábola, e disse: Fala Balaão, filho de Beor, e fala o homem de olhos abertos;16 fala aquele que ouviu os ditos de Deus e o que sabe a ciência de Elyon; o que viu a visão de Shaddai, que cai, mas com os olhos abertos:17 eu o verei, mas não agora; e o contemplarei mas não de perto. Virá uma Estrela de Jacó, e um Cetro subirá de Israel, e ferirá os cantos de Moabe, e destruirá todos os filhos de Sete.18 E Edom será uma possessão; Seir também será uma possessão para os seus inimigos; e Israel fará proezas.19 De Jacó virá um que dominará, e destruirá os sobreviventes da cidade.20 E, quando olhou para Amaleque, proferiu a sua parábola, e disse: Amaleque foi o primeiro das nações; mas o seu fim será que ele pereça, para sempre.21 E, ao olhar para os queneus, proferiu a sua parábola, e disse: Forte é a tua morada, e puseste o teu ninho em uma rocha.22 Todavia, o queneu será consumido, até que Assur te leve cativo.23 E proferiu a sua parábola, e disse: Ai, quem viverá, quando Deus fizer isto?24 E virão navios da costa de Quitim, e afligirão a Assur; e afligirão a Héber; e ele também perecerá para sempre.25 E Balaão se levantou, e retornou ao seu lugar; e Balaque também seguiu o seu caminho.
1 Now when Balaam saw that it was good in the eyes of Jehovah to bless Israel, he did not go as at other times, to encounter an omen of divination, but he set his face toward the wilderness.2 And Balaam raised his eyes, and saw Israel encamped according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him.3 And he took up his parable and said: The utterance of Balaam the son of Beor, the utterance of the man whose eyes are opened,4 the utterance of him who hears the Words of the Mighty God, who sees the vision of the Almighty, who falls down, with open eyes:5 How delightful are your tents, O Jacob! Your dwellings, O Israel!6 Like valleys that have been stretched out, like gardens by a river, like aloes planted by Jehovah, like cedars beside the waters.7 He makes water flow from his buckets, and his seed in many waters, his king is higher than Agag, and his kingdom is exalted.8 The Mighty God is bringing him out of Egypt; he has lofty horns like an oryx; he shall consume the nations, his enemies; he shall break their bones and pierce them with his arrows.9 He has crouched, he has lain down as a lion, and as a lioness; who shall arouse him? Blessed is he who blesses you, and cursed is he who curses you.10 And Balaks anger burned against Balaam, and he struck his hands together; and Balak said to Balaam, I summoned you to curse my enemies, and behold, you have altogether blessed them these three times!11 Now therefore, flee to your place. I had thought to honor you with great honor, but behold, Jehovah has kept you back from honor.12 So Balaam said to Balak, Did I not also speak to your messengers whom you sent to me, saying,13 If Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the mouth of Jehovah, to do good or bad of my own heart; but what Jehovah speaks, that I will speak?14 And now, behold, I am going to my people. Come, I will advise you what this people will do to your people in the latter days.15 And he took up his parable and said, The utterance of Balaam the son of Beor, and the utterance of the man whose eyes are opened;16 the utterance of him who hears the words of the Mighty God, and has the knowledge of the Most High, who sees the vision of the Almighty, who falls down, with open eyes:17 I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; a Star shall come out of Jacob; a Scepter shall rise out of Israel, and shatter the extremities of Moab, and destroy all the seats of the sons of Seth.18 And Edom shall be a possession; Seir also, his enemies, shall be a possession; and Israel shall do mightily.19 Out of Jacob shall be One who has dominion, and has destroyed the remnants of the city.20 Then he looked on Amalek, and he took up his parable and said: Amalek was first among the nations, but his end shall be everlasting destruction.21 And he looked on the Kenites, and he took up his parable and said: Firm is your dwelling place, and your nest is set in the rock;22 nevertheless the Kenites shall be burned up, until Asshur carries you away captive.23 And he took up his parable and said: Alas! Who shall live when the Mighty God brings this to pass?24 But ships shall come from the coasts of Kittim, and they shall afflict Asshur and afflict Eber, unto everlasting destruction.25 And Balaam arose and departed and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way.
