1 O homem que se isola busca seu próprio desejo, procurou e intermediou com toda a sabedoria.2 Um tolo não tem prazer no entendimento, mas isso o seu coração pode descobrir por si mesmo.3 Quando vier o perverso, vem também o desprezo, e com a ignomínia a vergonha.4 As palavras da boca de um homem são como águas profundas, e a fonte da sabedoria como um ribeiro que corre.5 Não é bom aceitar a pessoa do perverso para derrubar o justo em juízo.6 Os lábios de um tolo entram em contenda, e a sua boca pede por pancadas.7 A boca de um tolo é a sua destruição, e os seus lábios são o laço da sua alma.8 As palavras do mexeriqueiro são como feridas; elas descem às partes mais profundas da barriga.9 Aquele que também é preguiçoso no seu trabalho, é irmão daquele que é um grande desperdiçador.10 O nome do ­SENHOR é uma torre forte, o justo corre para ela e está seguro.11 A fortuna do homem rico é a sua cidade forte, e como uma muralha alta é a sua própria presunção.12 O coração do homem se exalta antes de ser destruído, e antes da honra está a humildade.13 Aquele que responde uma questão antes de ouvi-la, é loucura e vergonha sobre si.14 O espírito do homem sustentará a sua enfermidade, mas um espírito ferido, quem o suportará?15 O coração do prudente adquire o conhecimento, e o ouvido dos sábios busca o conhecimento.16 O presente de um homem abre o seu caminho e o leva diante de grandes homens.17 Aquele que é o primeiro em sua própria causa parece justo, porém vem o seu próximo e o examina.18 A sorte faz com que as contendas cessem, e divide entre os poderosos.19 O irmão ofendido é mais difícil de se conquistar do que uma cidade forte; e suas contendas são como as barras de um castelo.20 A barriga de um homem se satisfará com o fruto de sua boca, e com o acréscimo de seus lábios ele estará satisfeito.21 A morte e a vida estão no poder da língua; e aqueles que a amam comerão do seu fruto.22 Aquele que encontra uma esposa acha uma coisa boa, e obtém o favor do ­SENHOR.23 O pobre usa súplicas, mas o rico responde com dureza.24 Um homem que tem amigos deve mostrar-se amigável, e há um amigo mais chegado do que um irmão.

1 He that separates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound wisdom.2 A fool has no delight in understanding, but only that his heart may reveal itself.3 When the wicked comes, contempt also comes, and with dishonor comes reproach.4 The words of a man’s mouth are like deep waters; the fountain of wisdom is like a flowing stream.5 It is not good to favor the person of the wicked, nor to overthrow the righteous in judgment.6 A fool’s lips enter into strife, and his mouth calls for strokes.7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.8 The words of a talebearer are gulped down, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.9 He, also, who is slothful in his work is brother to a ruler who destroys.10 The name of Jehovah is a strong tower; the righteous one runs into it and is safe.11 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as a high wall in his own imagination.12 Prior to shattering, the heart of man is haughty; and before honor is humility.13 He who answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him.14 The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness, but who can bear a stricken spirit?15 The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.16 A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.17 The first to plead his case seems just, until his neighbor comes and cross-examines him.18 Casting lots puts an end to contentions, and separates the mighty from each other.19 A brother offended is like a strong city, and their contentions are like the bars of a fortress.20 A man’s belly shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; he shall be satisfied with the produce of his lips.21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it shall eat the fruit of it.22 He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from Jehovah.23 The poor speaks humble requests, but the rich answers roughly.24 A man and his friends may be broken up, but there is a love that sticks closer than a brother.
