1 John 2

Reasons for Writing

12 I am writing to you, little children,

since your sins have been forgiven

on account of his name.  * 2:12 Ps 25:11; Lk 24:47; Ac 2:38; 10:43

13 I am writing to you, fathers,

because you have come to know

the one who is from the beginning.  * 2:13 1Jn 1:1

I am writing to you, young men,

because you have conquered the evil one.  * 2:13 Jn 16:33; 17:15; Eph 6:10; 1Jn 2:14; 4:4; 5:4–5; Rv 2:7

14 I have written to you, children,

because you have come to know the Father.

I have written to you, fathers,

because you have come to know

the one who is from the beginning.

I have written to you, young men,

because you are strong,

God’s word  * 2:14 1Jn 1:10 remains in you,

and you have conquered the evil one.

A Warning about the World

15 Do not love the world  * 2:15 Jn 15:19; 17:16; Rm 12:2; Jms 1:27; 4:4 or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
