The Day of the Lord

1 About the times and the seasons:  * 5:1 Dn 2:21; Ac 1:7 Brothers and sisters, you do not need anything to be written to you. 2 For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord  * 5:2 Jl 2:1; Mt 25:13; Ac 2:20; Php 1:6 will come just like a thief  * 5:2 Jn 10:1 in the night. 3 When they say, "Peace and security," then sudden destruction  * 5:3 2Th 1:9 will come upon them, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. 4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not in the dark, for this day to surprise you like a thief.  * 5:4 Jb 24:13–175 For you are all children of light and children of the day. Exhortations and Blessings

12 Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to give recognition  * 5:12 1Co 16:18; Php 2:29 to those who labor among you and lead you  * 5:12 Or care for you in the Lord and admonish you, 13 and to regard them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace  * 5:13 Mk 9:50 among yourselves. 14 And we exhort you, brothers and sisters:  * 5:14 2Th 3:15 warn those who are idle,  * 5:14 Or who are disorderly, or who are undisciplined comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient  * 5:14 Mt 18:26,29; Lk 18:7; 1Co 13:4; Heb 6:15; Jms 5:7–8; 2Pt 3:9 with everyone. 15 See to it that no one repays evil for evil  * 5:15 Mt 5:44; Rm 12:17; 1Pt 3:9 to anyone,  * 5:15 Lk 7:47 but always pursue what is good for one another and for all.  * 5:15 Rm 12:9; Gl 6:10; 1Th 5:2116 Rejoice  * 5:16 2Co 6:10; Php 1:18 always, 17 pray constantly, 18 give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will  * 5:18 Eph 6:6; 1Th 4:3; 1Pt 2:15; 4:2; 1Jn 2:17 for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Don’t stifle the Spirit. 20 Don’t despise prophecies, 21 but test all things.  * 5:21 Eph 5:17 Hold on to what is good. 22 Stay away  * 5:22 1Tm 4:3 from every kind of evil.

23 Now may the God of peace  * 5:23 Rm 15:33 himself sanctify you completely. And may your whole spirit,  * 5:23 Ps 51:12 soul, and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming  * 5:23 1Th 1:10 of our Lord  * 5:23 Rv 11:8 Jesus Christ.  * 5:23 1Jn 2:2824 He who calls  * 5:24 Col 3:15 you  * 5:24 1Pt 1:15 is faithful; he will do it. 25 Brothers and sisters, pray for us also. 26 Greet all the brothers and sisters with a holy kiss. 27 I charge you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the brothers and sisters.  * 5:27 Col 4:1628 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
