2 John 1

Greeting

1 The elder:

To the elect  * 1 Rm 16:13; 1Pt 5:13; 2Jn 13 lady and her children, whom I love in the truth — and not only I, but also all who know the truth  * 1 Jn 8:32; 14:6; 1Tm 2:4  —  2 because of the truth that remains in us  * 2 1Jn 1:8 and will be with us forever.

3 Grace, mercy, and peace  * 3 1Tm 1:2; 2Tm 1:2 will be with us from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Son  * 3 Heb 1:2 of the Father, in truth and love.  * 3 1Jn 4:12

Truth and Deception

4 I was very glad to find some of your children walking in truth,  * 4 3Jn 3–4 in keeping with a command we have received from the Father. 5 So now I ask you, dear lady — not as if I were writing you a new command, but one we have had from the beginning — that we love one another.  * 5 1Jn 3:116 This is love:  * 6 1Jn 2:5; 5:3 that we walk according to his commands.  * 6 Ps 103:18; Mk 7:8; Jn 14:15,21,23; 15:10 This is the command as you have heard it from the beginning: that you walk in love.  * 6 Or in it

Farewell

12 Though I have many things to write to you,  * 12 3Jn 13 I don’t want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to come to you and talk face to face so that our joy  * 12 Jn 15:11 may be complete.
