8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 And he said to him, "I will give you all these things if you will fall down and worship me."  * 4:9 Or and pay me homage

15 Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,

along the road by the sea, beyond the Jordan,

Galilee of the Gentiles.

16 The people who live in darkness

have seen a great light,

and for those living in the land of the shadow of death,

17 From then on Jesus began to preach, "Repent, because the kingdom of heaven* 4:17 Mt 3:2; 5:3,10,19–20; 7:21; 8:11; Mk 1:14has come near."

18 As  * 4:18–22 Mk 1:16–20; Lk 5:2–11; Jn 1:40–42 he was walking along the Sea of Galilee,  * 4:18 Mt 15:29; Mk 7:31; Lk 5:1; Jn 6:1 he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter), and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea — for they were fishermen. 19 "Follow me," he told them, "and I will make you fish for* 4:19 Or you fishers ofpeople."20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him.

21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat with Zebedee their father, preparing their nets, and he called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
