14 Furthermore, from the day King Artaxerxes 5:14 Ezr 4:7; 7:1 appointed me to be their governor in the land of Judah — from the twentieth year until his thirty-second year, twelve years 5:14 Neh 13:6 — I and my associates never ate from the food allotted to the governor.
14 Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even unto the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor.
14 Moreover, from the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, until his thirty-second year—twelve years—neither I nor my brothers ate the food allotted to the governor.
14 Moreover, from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from ch. 2:1the twentieth year to ch. 13:6the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes the king, twelve years, [2 Thess. 3:8]neither I nor my brothers ate the food allowance of the governor.
14 For the entire twelve years that I was governor of Judah—from the twentieth year to the thirty-second year of the reign of King Artaxerxes5:14 That is, 445–433 b.c.—neither I nor my officials drew on our official food allowance.
14 Moreover, from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year Neh. 2:1; 13:6until the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes, twelve years, neither I nor my brothers (1 Cor. 9:4–15)ate the governor’s provisions.
14 Furthermore, since the day that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year to the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes, for twelve years, neither I nor my kinsmen have eaten the governor’s food allowance.
14 And from the day, in which the king commanded me to be governor in the land of Juda, from the twentieth year even to the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, for twelve years, I and my brethren did not eat the yearly allowance that was due to the governors.
14-16 From the time King Artaxerxes appointed me as their governor in the land of Judah—from the twentieth to the thirty-second year of his reign, twelve years—neither I nor my brothers used the governor’s food allowance. Governors who had preceded me had oppressed the people by taxing them forty shekels of silver (about a pound) a day for food and wine while their underlings bullied the people unmercifully. But out of fear of God I did none of that. I had work to do; I worked on this wall. All my men were on the job to do the work. We didn’t have time to line our own pockets.
