15 If a brother or sister is without clothes and lacks daily food 16 and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, stay warm, and be well fed," but you don’t give them what the body needs, what good is it? 2:14–16 Mt 25:35–36; Lk 3:11; 1Jn 3:16–1817 In the same way faith, if it does not have works, is dead by itself.
26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, "Go in peace; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
15 [Job 31:19,20]; See Luke 3:11If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 1 John 3:17,18and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good2:16 Or benefit is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.
15 Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, 16 and you say, "Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well"—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?
17 So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.
26 Just as the body is dead without breath,2:26 Or without spirit. so also faith is dead without good works.
15 Matt. 25:35; Luke 3:11If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and (1 John 3:17, 18)one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what doesit profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
15 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, 2:16 Or warm yourselves and fill yourselvesbe warmed and be filled," yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? 17 In the same way, faith also, if it has no works, is 2:17 Or dead by its own standardsdead, being by itself.
26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
15 And if a brother or sister be naked, and want daily food: 16 And one of you say to them: Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled; yet give them not those things that are necessary for the body, what shall it profit? 17 So faith also, if it have not works, is dead in itself. 26 For even as the body without the spirit is dead; so also faith without works is dead.
14-17 Dear friends, do you think you’ll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it? For instance, you come upon an old friend dressed in rags and half-starved and say, "Good morning, friend! Be clothed in Christ! Be filled with the Holy Spirit!" and walk off without providing so much as a coat or a cup of soup—where does that get you? Isn’t it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense?
25,26 The same with Rahab, the Jericho harlot. Wasn’t her action in hiding God’s spies and helping them escape—that seamless unity of believing and doing—what counted with God? The very moment you separate body and spirit, you end up with a corpse. Separate faith and works and you get the same thing: a corpse.
