Deuteronômio 1 - Bíblia Online

These are the words which Moses spoke to all Israel on this side the Jordan, in the wilderness, in the plain, opposite to Suph, between Paran and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and Dizahab. 
There are eleven days' journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir to Kadesh-barnea. 
And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first of the month, that Moses spoke to the children of Israel, according to all that Jehovah had given him in command to them; 
after he had smitten Sihon the king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, who dwelt at Ashtaroth {and} at Edrei. 
On this side the Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to unfold this law, saying, 
Jehovah our God spoke unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have stayed long enough in this mountain. 
Turn and take your journey, and go to the hill-country of the Amorites, and unto all the neighbouring places in the plain, in the mountain, and in the lowland, and in the south, and by the seaside, the land of the Canaanites, and Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates. 
Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which Jehovah swore unto your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them. 
And I spoke unto you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone. 
Jehovah your God hath multiplied you, and behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude. 
Jehovah, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times so many more as ye are, and bless you as he hath said unto you! 
How can I myself alone sustain your wear, and your burden, and your strife? 
Provide you wise and understanding and known men, according to your tribes, that I may make them your chiefs. 
And ye answered me, and said, The thing that thou hast spoken is good {for us} to do. 
So I took the chiefs of your tribes, wise men and known, and made them chiefs over you, captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties, and captains of tens, and officers for your tribes. 
And I commanded your judges at that time, saying, Hear {the causes} between your brethren, and judge righteously between a man and his brother, and him also that sojourneth with him. 
Ye shall not respect persons in judgment: ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God's; and the matter that is too hard for you shall ye bring to me, that I may hear it. 
And I commanded you at that time all the things that ye should do. 
And we departed from Horeb and went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw, on the way to the mountain of the Amorites, as Jehovah our God had commanded us; and we came to Kadesh-barnea. 
And I said unto you, Ye are come unto the mountain of the Amorites, which Jehovah our God giveth us. 
Behold, Jehovah thy God hath set the land before thee: go up, take possession, as Jehovah the God of thy fathers hath said unto thee; fear not, neither be dismayed. 
And ye came near to me all of you, and said, We will send men before us, who shall examine the land for us, and bring us word again of the way by which we must go up, and of the cities to which we shall come. 
And the matter was good in mine eyes; and I took twelve men of you, one man for a tribe. 
And they turned and went up into the mountain, and came to the valley of Eshcol, and searched it out. 
And they took of the fruit of the land in their hand, and brought it down unto us, and brought us answer, and said, The land is good that Jehovah our God hath given us. 
But ye would not go up, and rebelled against the word of Jehovah your God; 
and ye murmured in your tents, and said, Because Jehovah hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us. 
Whither shall we go up? Our brethren have made our hearts melt, saying, {They are} a people greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there. 
And I said unto you, Be not afraid, neither fear them; 
Jehovah your God who goeth before you, he will fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes; 
and in the wilderness where thou hast seen that Jehovah thy God bore thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came to this place. 
But In this thing ye did not believe Jehovah your God, 
who went in the way before you, to search you out a place for your encamping, in fire by night, to shew you by what way ye should go, and in the cloud by day. 
And Jehovah heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and swore, saying, 
None among these men, this evil generation, shall in any wise see that good land, which I swore to give unto your fathers! 
Except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he hath trodden upon, and to his children, because he hath wholly followed Jehovah. 
Also Jehovah was angry with me on your account, saying, Thou also shalt not go in thither. 
Joshua the son of Nun, who standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: strengthen him, for he shall cause Israel to inherit it. 
And your little ones, of whom ye said, They shall be a prey, and your children, who this day know neither good nor evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it. 
But ye, turn, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea. 
-And ye answered and said unto me, We have sinned against Jehovah, we will go up and fight, according to all that Jehovah our God hath commanded us. And ye girded on every man his weapons of war, and ye would go presumptuously up the hill. 
And Jehovah said to me, Say unto them, Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies. 
And I spoke unto you, but ye would not hear, and ye rebelled against the word of Jehovah, and acted presumptuously, and went up the hill. 
And the Amorite that dwelt on that hill came out against you, and chased you, like as bees do, and cut you in pieces in Seir, as far as Hormah. 
And ye returned and wept before Jehovah, but Jehovah would not listen to your voice, nor give ear unto you. 
And ye abode in Kadesh many days, according unto the days that ye abode {there}. 

Iată cuvintele pe cari le -a spus Moise întregului Israel, dincoace de Iordan, în pustie, într'o cîmpie, faţă în faţă cu Suf, între Paran, Tofel, Laban, Haţerot şi Di-Zahab. 
(Dela Horeb pînă la Cades-Barnea, pe drumul care duce la muntele Seir, este o depărtare de unsprezece zile). 
În al patruzecilea an, în luna unsprezecea, în ziua întîi a lunii, Moise a vorbit copiilor lui Israel şi le -a spus tot ce -i poruncise Domnul să le spună. 
Aceasta era după ce a bătut pe Sihon, împăratul Amoriţilor, care locuia la Hesbon, şi pe Og, împăratul Basanului, care locuia la Aştarot şi la Edrei. 
Dincoace de Iordan, în ţara Moabului, Moise a început să lămurească legea aceasta şi a zis: 
Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, ne -a vorbit la Horeb, zicînd: ,,Aţi locuit destulă vreme în muntele acesta. 
Întoarceţi-vă, şi plecaţi; duceţi-vă la muntele Amoriţilor şi în toate împrejurimile: în cîmpie, pe munte, în vale, în partea de miază-zi, pe ţărmul mării, în ţara Cananiţilor şi în Liban, pînă la rîul cel mare, rîul Eufrat. 
Vedeţi, v'am pus ţara înainte; intraţi şi luaţi în stăpînire ţara pe care domnul a jurat părinţilor voştri, Avraam, Isaac şi Iacov, că o va da lor şi seminţei lor după ei.`` 
În vremea aceea, v'am spus: ,,Eu nu văpot purta singur. 
Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, v'a înmulţit, şi azi sînteţi foarte mulţi la număr, ca stelele cerului. 
Domnul, Dumnezeul părinţilor voştri, să vă mărească de o mie de ori pe atît, şi să vă binecuvinteze, după cum a făgăduit! 
Cum aş putea să port eu singur pricinile voastre, povara voastră şi certurile voastre? 
Luaţi din seminţiile voastre nişte bărbaţi înţelepţi, pricepuţi şi cunoscuţi, şi -i voi pune în fruntea voastră.`` 
Voi mi-aţi răspuns, şi aţi zis: ,,Ceea ce spui tu să facem este un lucru bun.`` 
Am luat atunci pe căpeteniile seminţiilor voastre, bărbaţi înţelepţi şi cunoscuţi, şi i-am pus în fruntea voastră drept căpetenii peste o mie, căpetenii peste o sută, căpetenii peste cincizeci, şi căpetenii peste zece, ca dregători în seminţiile voastre. 
Am dat, în acelaş timp, următoarea poruncă judecătorilor voştri: ,,Să ascultaţi pe fraţii voştri, şi să judecaţi după dreptate neînţelegerile fiecăruia cu fratele lui sau cu străinul. 
Să nu căutaţi la faţa oamenilor în judecăţile voastre; să ascultaţi pe cel mic ca şi pe cel mare; să nu vă temeţi de nimeni, căci Dumnezeu e Cel care face dreptate. Şi cînd veţi găsi o pricină prea grea, s'o aduceţi înaintea mea, ca s'o aud.`` 
Aşa v'am poruncit, în vremea aceea, tot ce aveaţi de făcut. 
Am plecat din Horeb, şi am străbătut toată pustia aceea mare şi grozavă pe care aţi văzut -o; am luat drumul care duce în muntele Amoriţilor, cum ne poruncise Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, şi am ajuns la Cades-Barnea. 
Şi eu v'am zis: ,,Aţi ajuns la muntele Amoriţilor pe care ni -l dă Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru. 
Iată că Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, îţi pune ţara înainte; suie-te, ia -o în stăpînire, cum ţi -a spus Domnul Dumnezeul părinţilor tăi; nu te teme, şi nu te înspăimînta.`` 
Voi v'aţi apropiat cu toţii de mine, şi aţi zis: ,,Să trimetem nişte oameni înaintea noastră, ca să iscodească ţara, şi să ne aducă răspuns cu privire la drumul pe care ne vom sui în ea şi asupra cetăţilor în cari vom ajunge.`` 
Părerea aceasta mi s'a părut bună; şi am luat doisprezece oameni dintre voi, cîte un om de fiecare seminţie. 
Ei au plecat, au trecut muntele, şi au ajuns pînă la valea Eşcol, şi au iscodit ţara. 
Au luat în mîni din roadele ţării şi ni le-au adus; ne-au făcut o dare de seamă, şi au zis: ,,Bună ţară ne dă Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru.`` 
Dar voi n'aţi vrut să vă suiţi în ea, şi v'aţi răsvrătit împotriva poruncii Domnului, Dumnezeului vostru. 
Aţi cîrtit în corturile voastre, şi aţi zis: ,,Pentrucă ne urăşte, de aceea ne -a scos Domnul din ţara Egiptului, ca să ne dea în mînile Amoriţilor şi să ne nimicească. 
Unde să ne suim? Fraţii noştri ne-au muiat inima, zicînd: ,,Poporul acela este un popor mai mare şi mai înalt la statură decît noi; cetăţile sînt mari şi întărite pînă la cer; ba încă, am văzut acolo şi copii de ai lui Anac.`` 
Eu v'am zis: ,,Nu vă spăimîntaţi, şi nu vă fie frică de ei. 
Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, care merge înaintea voastră, se va lupta El însuş pentru voi, potrivit cu tot ce a făcut pentru voi subt ochii voştri în Egipt. 
Apoi în pustie, ai văzut că Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, te -a purtat cum poartă un om pe fiul său, pe tot drumul pe care l-aţi făcut pînă la sosirea voastră în locul acesta.`` 
Cu toate acestea, voi n'aţi avut încredere în Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, 
care mergea înaintea voastră pe drum, ca să vă caute un loc de poposire: noaptea într'un foc, ca să vă arate drumul pe care trebuiaţi să mergeţi, şi ziua într'un nor. 
Domnul a auzit glasul cuvintelor voastre. S'a mîniat, şi a jurat, zicînd: 
,,Niciunul din bărbaţii cari fac parte din acest neam rău nu va vedea ţara aceea bună pe care am jurat că o voi da părinţilor voştri, 
afară de Caleb, fiul lui Iefune. El o va vedea, şi ţara în care a mers, o voi da lui şi copiilor lui, pentrucă a urmat în totul calea Domnului.`` 
Domnul S'a mîniat şi pe mine, din pricina voastră, şi a zis: ,,Nici tu nu vei intra în ea. 
Iosua, fiul lui Nun, slujitorul tău, va intra în ea; întăreşte -l, căci el va pune pe Israel în stăpînirea ţării aceleia. 
Şi pruncii voştri, despre cari aţi zis: ,,Vor fi de jaf!`` şi fiii voştri, cari nu cunosc azi nici binele nici răul, ei vor intra în ea; da, lor le -o voi da, şi ei o vor stăpîni. 
Dar voi, întoarceţi-vă înapoi, şi plecaţi în pustie, în spre marea Roşie.`` 
Voi aţi răspuns, şi mi-aţi zis: ,,Am păcătuit împotriva Domnului; ne vom sui şi ne vom bate, cum ne -a poruncit Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru.`` Şi v'aţi încins fiecare armele, şi v'aţi încumetat să vă suiţi pe munte. 
Domnul mi -a zis: ,,Spune-le: ,Nu vă suiţi şi nu vă luptaţi, căci Eu nu sînt în mijlocul vostru; nu căutaţi să fiţi bătuţi de vrăjmaşii voştri.`` 
Eu v'am spus, dar n'aţi ascultat; ci v'aţi răzvrătit împotriva poruncii Domnului, şi v'aţi suit semeţi pe munte. 
Atunci Amoriţii, cari locuiesc pe muntele acesta, v'au ieşit înainte, şi v'au urmărit ca albinele; v'au bătut din Seir, pînă la Horma. 
La întoarcerea voastră, aţi plîns înaintea Domnului; dar Domnul nu v'a ascultat glasul, şi n'a luat aminte la voi. 
Şi aşa aţi rămas la Cades, unde aţi stat multă vreme.
