1 And Jacob called his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, and I will tell you what will befall you at the end of days.
2 Assemble yourselves, and hear, ye sons of Jacob, And listen to Israel your father.
3 Reuben, thou art my firstborn, My might, and the firstfruits of my vigour: Excellency of dignity, and excellency of strength.
4 Impetuous as the waters, thou shalt have no pre-eminence; Because thou wentest up to thy father's couch: Then defiledst thou {it}: he went up to my bed.
5 Simeon and Levi are brethren: Instruments of violence their swords.
6 My soul, come not into their council; Mine honour, be not united with their assembly; For in their anger they slew men, And in their wantonness houghed oxen.
7 Cursed be their anger, for it {was} violent; And their rage, for it {was} cruel! I will divide them in Jacob, And scatter them in Israel.
8 Judah-{as to} thee, thy brethren will praise thee; Thy hand will be upon the neck of thine enemies; Thy father's children will bow down to thee.
9 Judah is a young lion; From the prey, my son, thou art gone up. He stoopeth, he layeth himself down as a lion, And as a lioness: who will rouse him up?
10 The sceptre will not depart from Judah, Nor the lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh come, And to him will be the obedience of peoples.
11 He bindeth his foal to the vine, And his ass's colt to the choice vine; He washeth his dress in wine, And his garment in the blood of grapes.
12 The eyes are red with wine, And the teeth {are} white with milk.
13 Zebulun will dwell at the shore of the seas; Yea, he will be at the shore of the ships, And his side {toucheth} upon Sidon.
14 Issachar is a bony ass, Crouching down between two hurdles.
15 And he saw the rest that it was good, And the land that it was pleasant; And he bowed his shoulder to bear, And was a tributary servant.
16 Dan will judge his people, As another of the tribes of Israel.
17 Dan will be a serpent on the way, A horned snake on the path, Which biteth the horse's heels, So that the rider falleth backwards.
18 I wait for thy salvation, O Jehovah.
19 Gad-troops will rush upon him; But he will rush upon the heel.
20 Out of Asher, his bread shall be fat, And he will give royal dainties.
21 Naphtali is a hind let loose; He giveth goodly words.
22 Joseph is a fruitful bough; A fruitful bough by a well; {His} branches shoot over the wall.
23 The archers have provoked him, And shot at, and hated him;
24 But his bow abideth firm, And the arms of his hands are supple By the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob. From thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel:
25 From the *God of thy father, and he will help thee; And from the Almighty, and he will bless thee-With blessings of heaven from above, With blessings of the deep that lieth under, With blessings of the breast and of the womb.
26 The blessings of thy father surpass the blessings of my ancestors, Unto the bounds of the everlasting hills: They shall be on the head of Joseph, And on the crown of the head of him that was separated from his brethren.
27 Benjamin-{as} a wolf will he tear to pieces; In the morning he will devour the prey, And in the evening he will divide the booty.
28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father spoke to them; and he blessed them: every one according to his blessing he blessed them.
29 And he charged them, and said to them, I am gathered to my people: bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite,
30 in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is opposite to Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought of Ephron the Hittite along with the field for a possession of a sepulchre.
31 There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife; there they buried Isaac and Rebecca his wife; and there I buried Leah.
32 The purchase of the field, and of the cave that is in it, was from the children of Heth.
33 And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his sons, he gathered his feet into the bed, and expired, and was gathered to his peoples.
1 Iacov a chemat pe fiii săi, şi a zis: ,,Strîngeţi-vă, şi vă voi vesti ce vi se va întîmpla în vremile cari vor veni.
2 ,,Strîngeţi-vă, şi ascultaţi, fii ai lui Iacov! Ascultaţi pe tatăl vostru Israel!
3 Ruben, tu, întîiul meu născut, Puterea mea şi pîrga tăriei mele, Întîiul în vrednicie, şi întîiul în putere,
4 Năvalnic ca apele, -tu nu vei mai avea întîietatea! Căci te-ai suit în patul tatălui tău, Mi-ai spurcat patul, suindu-te în el.
5 Simeon şi Levi sînt fraţi; Săbiile lor sînt nişte unelte de sîlnicie.
6 Nu vreau să intre sufletul meu la sfaturile lor, Nu vreau să se unească duhul meu cu adunarea lor! Căci, în mînia lor, au ucis oameni, Şi, în răutatea lor, au tăiat vinele taurilor.
7 Blestemată să fie mînia lor, pentrucă a fost prea turbată, Şi furia lor, căci a fost prea sălbatică! Îi voi împărţi în Iacov, Şi -i voi risipi în Israel.
8 Iudo, tu vei primi laudele fraţilor tăi; Mîna ta va apuca de ceafă pe vrăjmaşii tăi. Fiii tatălui tău se vor închina pînă la pămînt înaintea ta.
9 Iuda este un pui de leu. Tu te-ai întors dela măcel, fiule! Iuda îşi pleacă genunchii, se culcă întocmai ca un leu, Ca o leoaică: cine -l va scula?
10 Toiagul de domnie nu se va depărta din Iuda, Nici toiagul de cîrmuire dintre picioarele lui, Pînă va veni Şilo, Şi de El vor asculta popoarele.
11 El îşi leagă măgarul de viţă, Şi de cel mai bun butuc de viţă mînzul măgăriţei lui; Îşi spală haina în vin, Şi mantaua în sîngele strugurilor.
12 Are ochii roşi de vin, Şi dinţii albi de lapte.
13 Zabulon va locui pe ţărmul mărilor, Lîngă limanul corăbiilor, Şi hotarul lui se va întinde înspre Sidon.
14 Isahar este un măgar osos, Care se culcă în grajduri.
15 Vede că locul unde se odihneşte este plăcut, Şi că ţinutul lui este măreţ; Îşi pleacă umărul subt povară, Şi se supune birului.
16 Dan va judeca pe poporul său, Ca una din seminţiile lui Israel.
17 Dan va fi un şarpe pe drum, O năpîrcă pe cărare, Muşcînd călcîiele calului, Făcînd să cadă călăreţul pe spate.
18 În ajutorul Tău, nădăjduiesc, Doamne!
19 Peste Gad vor da iuruş cete înarmate, Dar şi el va da iuruş peste ele şi le va urmări.
20 Aşer dă o hrană minunată; El va da bucate alese împăraţilor.
21 Neftali este o cerboaică slobodă: Rosteşte cuvinte frumoase.
22 Iosif este vlăstarul unui pom roditor, Vlăstarul unui pom roditor sădit lîngă un izvor; Ramurile lui se înalţă deasupra zidului.
23 Arcaşii l-au aţîţat, au aruncat săgeţi, Şi l-au urmărit cu ura lor.
24 Dar arcul lui a rămas tare, Şi mînile lui au fost întărite De mînile Puternicului lui Iacov: Şi a ajuns astfel păstorul, stînca lui Israel.
25 Aceasta este lucrarea Dumnezeului tatălui tău, care te va ajuta; Aceasta este lucrarea Celui Atotputernic, care te va binecuvînta Cu binecuvîntările cerurilor de sus, Cu binecuvîntările apelor de jos, Cu binecuvîntările ţîţelor şi ale pîntecelui mamei.
26 Binecuvîntările tatălui tău Întrec binecuvîntările părinţilor mei, şi se înalţă Pînă în creştetul dealurilor vecinice: Ele să vină peste capul lui Iosif, Peste creştetul capului domnului fraţilor săi!
27 Beniamin este un lup care sfăşie; Dimineaţa, mănîncă prada, Iar seara, împarte prada răpită.``
28 Aceştia sînt toţi ceice alcătuiesc cele douăsprezece seminţii ale lui Israel. Şi acestea sînt lucrurile, pe cari li le -a spus tatăl lor, cînd i -a binecuvîntat. I -a binecuvîntat, pe fiecare cu o binecuvîntare deosebită.
29 Apoi le -a dat porunca următoare: ,,Eu am să fiu adăugat la poporul meu; deci să mă îngropaţi împreună cu părinţii mei, în peştera care este în ogorul Hetitului Efron,
30 în peştera din ogorul Macpela, care este faţă în faţă cu Mamre, în ţara Canaan. Acesta este ogorul, pe care l -a cumpărat Avraam de la Hetitul Efron, ca moşie de înmormîntare.
31 Acolo au îngropat pe Avraam şi pe Sara, nevasta lui; acolo au îngropat pe Isaac şi pe Rebeca, nevasta lui; şi acolo am îngropat eu pe Lea.
32 Ogorul şi peştera care se află acolo au fost cumpărate dela fiii lui Het.``
33 Cînd a insprăvit Iacov de dat porunci fiilor săi, şi -a tras picioarele în pat, şi -a dat duhul, şi a fost adăugat la poporul său.
