1 The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.
2 Lift up a banner upon a bare mountain, raise the voice unto them, shake the hand, that they may enter the gates of the nobles.
3 I have commanded my hallowed ones, I have also called my mighty men for mine anger, them that rejoice in my highness.
4 The noise of a multitude on the mountains, as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations assembled together: Jehovah of hosts mustereth the host of the battle.
5 They come from a far country, from the end of the heavens-Jehovah, and the weapons of his indignation-to destroy the whole land.
6 Howl, for the day of Jehovah is at hand; it cometh as destruction from the Almighty.
7 Therefore shall all hands be feeble, and every heart of man shall melt,
8 and they shall be terrified: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them, they shall writhe as a woman that travaileth; they shall be amazed one at another, their faces shall be as flames.
9 Behold, the day of Jehovah cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the earth desolate; and he will destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
10 For the stars of the heavens and the constellations thereof shall not give their light; the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
11 And I will punish the world for evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will make the arrogance of the proud to cease, and will bring low the haughtiness of the violent.
12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold, even man than the gold of Ophir.
13 Therefore I will make the heavens to shake, and the earth shall be removed out of her place, at the wrath of Jehovah of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.
14 And it shall be as with a chased roe, and as with a flock that no man gathereth together; every one shall turn to his own people, and every one flee into his own land.
15 All that are found shall be thrust through; and every one that is in league {with them} shall fall by the sword.
16 And their infants shall be dashed in pieces before their eyes, their houses shall be rifled, and their women ravished.
17 Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who do not regard silver, and as for gold, they have no delight in it.
18 And {their} bows shall dash the young men to pieces, and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb: their eye shall not spare children.
19 And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans' pride, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
20 It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in, even to generation and generation; nor shall Arabian pitch tent there, nor shepherds make fold there.
21 But beasts of the desert shall lie there, and their houses shall be full of owls; and ostriches shall dwell there, and wild goats shall dance there.
22 And jackals shall cry to one another in their palaces, and wild dogs in the pleasant castles. And her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.

2 Ridicaţi un steag pe un munte gol, înălţaţi glasul spre ei, faceţi semne cu mîna, ca să vină la porţile asupritorilor!
3 ,,Am dat poruncă sfintei Mele oştiri-zice Domnul-am chemat pe vitejii Mei la judecata mîniei Mele, pe cei ce se bucură de mărimea Mea.``
4 Un vuiet se aude pe munţi, ca vuietul de popor mult; se aude o zarvă de împărăţii, de neamuri adunate. Domnul oştirilor Îşi cercetează oastea care va da lupta.
5 Ei vin dintr'o ţară depărtată, de la marginea cerurilor: Domnul şi uneltele mîniei Lui vor nimici tot pămîntul.
6 Gemeţi! căci ziua Domnului este aproape: ea vine ca o pustiire a Celui Atotputernic!
7 De aceea toate mînile slăbesc, şi orice inimă omenească se topeşte.
8 Ei sînt năpădiţi de spaimă; îi apucă chinurile şi durerile; se zvîrcolesc ca o femeie în durerile naşterii, se uită unii la alţii încremeniţi; feţele lor sînt roşi ca focul.
9 Iată, vine ziua Domnului, zi fără milă, zi de mînie şi urgie aprinsă, care va preface tot pămîntul în pustiu, şi va nimici pe toţi păcătoşii de pe el.
10 Căci stelele cerurilor şi Orionul nu vor mai străluci; soarele se va întuneca la răsăritul lui, şi luna nu va mai lumina.
11 Voi pedepsi-zice Domnul-lumea pentru răutatea ei, şi pe cei răi pentru nelegiuirile lor; voi face să înceteze mîndria celor trufaşi, şi voi doborî semeţia celor asupritori.
12 Voi face pe oameni mai rari decît aurul curat, şi mai scumpi decît aurul din Ofir.
13 Pentru aceasta voi clătina cerurile, şi pămîntul se va zgudui din temelia lui, de mînia Domnului oştirilor, în ziua mîniei Lui aprinse.
14 Atunci, ca o căprioară speriată, ca o turmă fără păstor, fiecare se va întoarce la poporul său, fiecare va fugi în ţara lui.
15 Toţi ceice vor fi prinşi, vor fi străpunşi, şi toţi cei ce vor fi apucaţi, vor cădea ucişi de sabie.
16 Copiii lor vor fi zdrobiţi supt ochii lor, casele le vor fi jăfuite, şi nevestele lor vor fi necinstite.
17 Iată, aţîţ împotriva lor pe Mezi, cari nu se uită la argint, şi nu poftesc aurul.
18 Cu arcurile lor vor doborî pe tineri, şi vor fi fără milă pentru rodul pîntecelor: ochiul lor nu va cruţa pe copii.
19 Şi astfel Babilonul, podoaba împăraţilor, falnica mîndrie a Haldeilor, va fi ca Sodoma şi Gomora, pe cari le -a nimicit Dumnezeu.
20 El nu va mai fi locuit, nu va mai fi niciodată popor în el. Arabul nu-şi va mai întinde cortul acolo, şi păstorii nu-şi vor mai ţărcui turmele acolo,
21 ci fiarele pustiei îşi vor face culcuşul acolo, bufniţele îi vor umplea casele, struţii vor locui acolo, şi stafiile se vor juca acolo.
22 Şacalii vor urla în casele lui împărăteşti pustii, şi cînii sălbatici în casele lui de petrecere. Vremea lui este aproape să vină, şi zilele nu i se vor lungi.``
