1 Und die Söhne der Propheten sprachen zu Elisa: Siehe doch, der Ort, wo wir vor dir wohnen, ist uns zu enge;

2 laß uns doch an den Jordan gehen und von dannen ein jeder einen Balken holen, und uns dort einen Ort herrichten, um daselbst zu wohnen.

3 Und er sprach: Gehet hin. Und einer sprach: Laß es dir doch gefallen und gehe mit deinen Knechten! Und er sprach: Ich will mitgehen.

4 Und er ging mit ihnen; und sie kamen an den Jordan und hieben die Bäume um.

5 Es geschah aber, als einer einen Balken fällte, da fiel das Eisen ins Wasser; und er schrie und sprach: Ach, mein Herr! und es war entlehnt!

6 Und der Mann Gottes sprach: Wohin ist es gefallen? Und er zeigte ihm die Stelle; da schnitt er ein Holz ab und warf es hinein und machte das Eisen schwimmen.

7 Und er sprach: Nimm es dir auf. Und er streckte seine Hand aus und nahm es.

1 And the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell before thee is too strait for us.

2 Let us go, we pray thee, to the Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he said, Go.

3 And one said, Consent, I pray thee, to go with thy servants. And he said, I will go.

4 And he went with them. And they came to the Jordan and cut down the trees.

5 And it came to pass as one was felling a beam, that the iron fell into the water; and he cried and said, Alas, master, and it was borrowed!

6 And the man of God said, Where did it fall? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither, and made the iron to swim.

7 And he said, Take {it} up to thee. And he put out his hand and took it.
