1 Der Zerschmetterer zieht wider dich herauf. Bewahre die Festung; überwache den Weg, stärke deine Lenden, befestige sehr deine Kraft! 2 Denn Jehova stellt die Herrlichkeit *O. den Stolz, d. h. das worauf Jakob stolz war Jakobs wie die Herrlichkeit Israels wieder her; denn die Plünderer haben sie geplündert und haben ihre Reben zerstört. 3 Die Schilde seiner Helden sind gerötet, die tapferen Männer sind in Karmesin gekleidet, die Wagen glänzen von Stahl *W. in Feuer von Stahl die Wagen am Tage seines Rüstens, und die Lanzen *Eig. die Cypressenschäfte werden geschwungen. 4 Die Wagen rasen auf den Straßen, sie rennen auf den Plätzen, ihr Aussehen ist wie Fackeln, wie Blitze fahren sie daher. - 5 Er *der Assyrer gedenkt seiner Edlen: sie straucheln *vor lauter Eile auf ihren Wegen, sie eilen zu ihrer *d. i. Ninives Mauer, und das Schutzdach wird aufgerichtet. 6 Die Tore an den Strömen sind geöffnet, und der Palast verzagt. 7 Denn es ist beschlossen: sie wird entblößt, weggeführt; und ihre Mägde stöhnen wie die Stimme der Tauben, sie schlagen *Eig. schlagend an ihre Brust. 8 Ninive war ja von jeher wie ein Wasserteich; und doch fliehen sie! Stehet, stehet! aber keiner sieht sich um. 9 Raubet Silber, raubet Gold! denn unendlich ist der Vorrat *Eig. die Ausstattung, der Reichtum an allerlei kostbaren Geräten. 10 Leere und Entleerung und Verödung! und das Herz zerfließt, und die Knie wanken, und in allen Lenden ist Schmerz *Eig. Krampf und ihrer aller Angesichter erblassen. -

11 Wo ist nun die Wohnung der Löwen, und der Weideort der jungen Löwen, wo der Löwe wandelte, die Löwin und das Junge des Löwen, und niemand sie aufschreckte? 12 Der Löwe raubte für den Bedarf seiner Jungen und erwürgte für seine Löwinnen, und er füllte seine Höhlen mit Raub und seine Wohnungen mit Geraubtem. 13 Siehe, ich will an dich, spricht Jehova *Eig. ist der Spruch Jehovas; so auch Kap. 3,5 der Heerscharen, und ich werde ihre Wagen *d. i. Ninives in Rauch aufgehen lassen, und deine jungen Löwen wird das Schwert verzehren; und ich werde deinen Raub von der Erde ausrotten, und die Stimme deiner Boten wird nicht mehr gehört werden.

11 Where is the dwelling of the lions, and the feedingplace of the young lions, where the lion, even the old lion, walked, and the lion’s whelp, and none made them afraid? 12 The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with ravin. 13 Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.
