Qualifications for Overseers
1 The saying is See ch. 1:15trustworthy: If anyone aspires to See Acts 20:28the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. 2 Therefore Titus 1:6-9an overseer3:2 Or bishop; Greek episkopos; a similar term occurs in verse 1 must be above reproach, [ch. 5:9] the husband of one wife,3:2 Or a man of one woman; also verse 12ver. 11;Titus 2:2sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, 1 Pet. 4:9hospitable, 2 Tim. 2:24able to teach, 3 not a drunkard, not violent but Titus 3:2gentle, not quarrelsome, Heb. 13:5;[ch. 6:10]not a lover of money. 4 He must manage his own household well, with all dignity [ver. 12]keeping his children submissive, 5 for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for [See ver. 1above]God’s church? 6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may ch. 6:4;2 Tim. 3:4become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. 7 Moreover, he must be well thought of by See Mark 4:11outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into 2 Tim. 2:26;[ch. 6:9]a snare of the devil.
