Song of Solomon 3

The Bride’s Dream

1 On my bed Isa. 26:9by night

I sought ch. 1:7him whom my soul loves;

ch. 5:6;[John 7:34]I sought him, but found him not.

2 I will rise now and go about the city,

in Jer. 5:1the streets and in the squares;

I will seek [See ver. 1above]him whom my soul loves.

I sought him, but found him not.

3 ch. 5:7The watchmen found me

as they went about in the city.

"Have you seen him whom my soul loves?"

4 Scarcely had I passed them

when I found [See ver. 1above] him whom my soul loves.

I [Job 27:6] held him, and would not let him go

until I had ch. 8:2brought him into my mother’s house,

and into the chamber of [Hos. 2:5]her who conceived me.

5 See ch. 2:7I adjure you, See ch. 1:5O daughters of Jerusalem,

See ch. 2:9by the gazelles or the does of the field,

that you not stir up or awaken love

until it pleases.

Solomon Arrives for the Wedding

6 ch. 8:5;[ch. 6:10;Isa. 60:8] What is that coming up from the wilderness

like Ex. 13:21;Joel 2:30columns of smoke,

perfumed with ch. 4:6,14;Matt. 2:11;John 19:39myrrh and frankincense,

with all the fragrant powders of a merchant?

7 Behold, it is the litter3:7 That is, the couch on which servants carry a king of Solomon!

Around it are ch. 6:8sixty 2 Sam. 23:8;1 Chr. 11:10mighty men,

some of the mighty men of Israel,

8 all of them wearing swords

and expert in war,

each with his Ps. 45:3sword at his thigh,

against Ps. 91:5terror by night.

9 King Solomon made himself a carriage3:9 Or sedan chair

from the wood of Lebanon.

10 He made its posts of silver,

its back of gold, its seat of purple;

its interior was inlaid with love

by See ch. 1:5the daughters of Jerusalem.

11 Go out, O Isa. 3:16,17;4:4daughters of Zion,

and look upon King Solomon,

with the crown with which his mother crowned him

on [Isa. 62:5]the day of his wedding,

on the day of the gladness of his heart.
