Jesus Walks on the Water
22 For ver. 22-33, see Mark 6:45-51;John 6:15-21Immediately he [ch. 8:18]made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. 23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, Luke 6:12;9:28;[Mark 1:35;Luke 5:16] he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When [Mark 13:35]evening came, he was there alone, 24 but the boat by this time was a long way14:24 Greek many stadia, a stadion was about 607 feet or 185 meters from the land,14:24 Some manuscripts was out on the sea beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. 25 And [See ver. 22above]in the fourth watch of the night14:25 That is, between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. he came to them, walking on the sea. 26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, [Luke 24:37]they were terrified, and said, "It is a ghost!" and they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, ch. 17:7;[Deut. 31:6;Isa. 41:13;43:1,2;John 16:33]"Take heart; it is I. ch. 17:7;[Deut. 31:6;Isa. 41:13;43:1,2;John 16:33]Do not be afraid."
28 And Peter answered him, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water." 29 He said, "Come." So Peter got out of the boat and [John 21:7]walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind,14:30 Some manuscripts strong wind he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, [ch. 8:25,26]"Lord, save me." 31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, See ch. 6:30"O you of little faith, why did you [James 1:6]doubt?"32 And when they got into the boat, [See ver. 30above]the wind ceased. 33 And ver. 22those in the boat See ch. 8:2worshiped him, saying, [John 6:14] "Truly you are ch. 16:16;26:63;Ps. 2:7;Mark 1:1;Luke 1:35;4:41;John 1:49;10:36;11:27;20:31;[ch. 3:17]the Son of God."
