1. KJV King James Version

69 Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. 70 But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. 72 And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. 74 Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. 75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

2. NIV New International Version

69 Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. "You also were with Jesus of Galilee," she said.

70 But he denied it before them all. "I don’t know what you’re talking about," he said.

72 He denied it again, with an oath: "I don’t know the man!"

74 Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, "I don’t know the man!"

Immediately a rooster crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: "Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times." And he went outside and wept bitterly.

69 Meanwhile, Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A servant girl came over and said to him, "You were one of those with Jesus the Galilean."

70 But Peter denied it in front of everyone. "I don’t know what you’re talking about," he said.

72 Again Peter denied it, this time with an oath. "I don’t even know the man," he said.

74 Peter swore, "A curse on me if I’m lying—I don’t know the man!" And immediately the rooster crowed.

75 Suddenly, Jesus’ words flashed through Peter’s mind: "Before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me." And he went away, weeping bitterly.

69 All this time, Peter was sitting out in the courtyard. One servant girl came up to him and said, "You were with Jesus the Galilean."

70 In front of everybody there, he denied it. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."

72 Again he denied it, salting his denial with an oath: "I swear, I never laid eyes on the man."

74,75 Then he got really nervous and swore. "I don’t know the man!"

Just then a rooster crowed. Peter remembered what Jesus had said: "Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times." He went out and cried and cried and cried.
