The Temptation of Jesus

1 *For ver. 1-11, see Mark 1:12,13;Luke 4:1-13Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness *[Heb. 2:18;4:15]to be tempted by the devil. 2 And after fasting *[Deut. 9:9,18;1 Kgs. 19:8] forty days and forty nights, he *[John 4:6,7]was hungry. 3 And *1 Thess. 3:5the tempter came and said to him, "If you are *See ch. 14:33the Son of God, command *[ch. 3:9]these stones to become loaves of bread." 4 But he answered, *ver. 7, 10;Eph. 6:17"It is written,

but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’"

7 Jesus said to him, "Again *ver. 4, 10it is written, *Cited from Deut. 6:16‘You shall not *[Isa. 7:12]put the Lord your God to the test.’"8 *Luke 4:5Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to him, "All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me." 10 Then Jesus said to him, "Be gone, *See 1 Chr. 21:1Satan! For *ver. 4, 7it is written,

11 Then the devil left him, and behold, *ch. 26:53;Luke 22:43angels came and were ministering to him.
