54 Well as they heard these things their hearts were being sawed in half,*That is what the Text says. It is a graphic figure of speech. If you are sliced with a sharp object you may scarcely feel it at the moment, but if someone starts sawing on you… No wonder they were mad! (They had long since figured out that Stephen was not being conciliatory.) and they started gnashing their teeth at him.
