Luke 1

26 In the sixth month of her pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to a young girl called Mary who lived in the town of Nazareth in Galilee. 27 She was engaged to a man named Joseph.

28 The angel greeted her.*1:28. In fact the angel uses the common form of greeting of the time that literally meant "Rejoice" but was actually equivalent to saying "Hello." Even modern translations have trouble here, with the angel saying "Hail, favored woman" or "Greetings, O favored one," neither of which seem particularly suitable. On the other hand an angel arriving and saying "Hi" hardly fits either… "You are very privileged," he told her. "The Lord is with you."
