10 "So why do the religious teachers say that Elijah has to come first?" his disciples asked.
11 "It’s true that Elijah comes to put everything in place," Jesus replied, 12 "but I tell you that Elijah has already come and yet people didn’t recognize who he was. They did whatever they felt like to him. In the same way the Son of man will also suffer at their hands." 13 Then the disciples realized that Jesus was referring to John the Baptist.
10 And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? 11 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. 12 But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. 13 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.
10 The disciples asked him, "Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?"
11 Jesus replied, "To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things.12 But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands."13 Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.
10 And the disciples asked him, "Then why do the scribes say See ch. 11:14;Mal. 4:5,6that first Elijah must come?" 11 He answered, "Elijah does come, and Luke 1:16,17;[Acts 1:6;3:21]he will restore all things.12 But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but ch. 14:3,10did to him whatever they pleased. ch. 16:21So also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands."13 ch. 16:12Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.
10 Then his disciples asked him, "Why do the teachers of religious law insist that Elijah must return before the Messiah comes?17:10 Greek that Elijah must come first?"
11 Jesus replied, "Elijah is indeed coming first to get everything ready.12 But I tell you, Elijah has already come, but he wasn’t recognized, and they chose to abuse him. And in the same way they will also make the Son of Man suffer."13 Then the disciples realized he was talking about John the Baptist.

11 Jesus answered and said to them, "Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will (Mal. 4:6); Luke 1:17restore all things.12 Matt. 11:14; Mark 9:12, 13But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they Matt. 14:3, 10did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise Matt. 16:21the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands."13 Matt. 11:14Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.
10 And His disciples asked Him, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" 11 And He answered and said, "Elijah is coming and will restore all things;12 but I say to you that Elijah already came, and they did not recognize him, but did 17:12 Lit in him; or in his caseto him whatever they wanted. So also the Son of Man is going to suffer 17:12 Lit by themat their hands."13 Then the disciples understood that He had spoken to them about John the Baptist.
