1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks; 2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: 3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. 4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. 5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. 6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. 7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

8 And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive; 9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. 10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. 11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

12 And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges; 13 I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth. 14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. 15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. 16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. 17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

18 And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass; 19 I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first. 20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. 21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. 22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. 23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works. 24 But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden. 25 But that which ye have already hold fast till I come. 26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: 27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. 28 And I will give him the morning star. 29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

1 Schrijf aan de engel van de kerkgemeenschap in Efeze: Hij die de zeven sterren in zijn rechterhand houdt en tussen de zeven gouden kandelaars wandelt, zegt: 2 ‘Ik heb weet van jouw gedrag: je werkt hard, houdt vol en kan slechte mensen niet verdragen. Je hebt de mensen die zichzelf apostel noemen maar het niet zijn, getest en vastgesteld dat ze liegen. 3 Je houdt vol en je hebt om mijnentwil veel verdragen, zonder op te geven. 4 Maar wat Ik je kwalijk neem is dat je Mij niet meer liefhebt zoals voorheen. 5 Bedenk hoe diep je bent gevallen! Kom tot inkeer en gedraag je weer zoals vroeger. Want als je niet tot inkeer komt, zal Ik naar je toe komen en je kandelaar verwijderen. 6 Maar het pleit in je voordeel dat je net als Ik de Nikolaïeten haat. 7 Als je oren hebt, luister dan naar hetgeen de Geest tegen de kerkgemeenschappen zegt. Wie overwint, zal Ik laten eten van de levensboom die zich in Gods paradijs bevindt.’

8 Schrijf aan de engel van de kerkgemeenschap in Smyrna: Hij die de eerste en de laatste is, die dood is geweest en weer leeft, zegt: 9 ‘Ik heb weet van jouw lijden en je armoede – hoewel je rijk bent. Ik weet ook hoe je wordt belasterd door de mensen die ten onrechte beweren dat ze joods zijn, maar die in feite Satan vereren. 10 Wees niet bang voor het lijden dat je staat te wachten. Let op, de duivel staat op het punt sommigen van jullie gevangen te laten zetten om jullie op de proef te stellen. Jullie zullen tien dagen lang lijden ondergaan. Wees trouw tot de dood en Ik zal je bekronen met het leven. 11 Als je oren hebt, luister dan naar hetgeen de Geest tegen de kerkgemeenschappen zegt. Wie overwint, zal geen schade ondervinden van de tweede dood.’

12 Schrijf aan de engel van de kerkgemeenschap in Pergamum: Hij die het scherpe, tweesnijdende zwaard heeft, zegt: 13 ‘Ik weet waar jij woont – daar waar Satans troon staat. Toch hou je mijn naam in ere: je hebt je geloof in Mij niet verloochend, zelfs niet toen mijn trouwe getuige Antipas werd omgebracht, bij jullie in de woonplaats van Satan. 14 Maar wat Ik je kwalijk neem is dat er mensen bij jou zijn die zich houden aan de leer van Bileam. Hij leerde Balak hoe hij het volk Israël kon laten struikelen, zodat ze zouden eten van voedsel dat aan de afgoden gewijd was, en ontucht zouden plegen. 15 Zo is het ook bij jou: sommigen volgen de leer van de Nikolaïeten. 16 Kom tot inkeer; anders kom Ik spoedig naar je toe om hen te bestrijden met het zwaard uit mijn mond. 17 Als je oren hebt, luister dan naar hetgeen de Geest tegen de kerkgemeenschappen zegt. Wie overwint, zal Ik het verborgen manna geven. Ook zal Ik hem een wit steentje geven en op dat steentje zal een nieuwe naam staan, die niemand kent behalve de persoon die hem krijgt.’

18 Schrijf aan de engel van de kerkgemeenschap in Tyatira: Hij die ogen heeft als een vuurvlam en voeten als gezuiverd en gepoetst brons, zegt: 19 ‘Ik heb weet van jouw gedrag: van je liefde, trouw, dienstbetoon en volharding. Je doet zelfs meer dan vroeger. 20 Maar wat Ik je kwalijk neem is dat je Izebel haar gang laat gaan. Die vrouw beweert dat ze een profetes is, maar ze misleidt mijn dienaren en leert hun ontucht te plegen en aan afgoden gewijd voedsel te eten. 21 Ik heb haar de tijd gegund om tot inkeer te komen, maar ze weigert zich van haar ontucht af te keren. 22 Let op, Ik zal haar ziek maken en degenen die ontucht met haar plegen zal Ik zwaar doen lijden, tenzij ze zich afkeren van het wangedrag dat ze van haar hebben geleerd. 23 Ik zal haar volgelingen een harde dood doen sterven. Dan zullen alle kerkgemeenschappen weten dat Ik het ben die gedachten en harten doorgrondt. En Ik zal elk van jullie loon naar werken geven. 24 Maar tegen de rest in Tyatira, degenen die deze leer niet aanhangen en de zogenaamde diepe dingen van Satan niet willen kennen, zeg Ik: "Ik leg jullie geen extra last op; 25 wel moeten jullie vasthouden wat je hebt, totdat Ik kom." 26 Wie overwint, wie tot het einde doet wat Ik hem opdraag, zal Ik macht over de volken geven. 27 Hij zal over hen heersen met een ijzeren scepter, en ze zullen worden stukgeslagen als potten van de pottenbakker. 28 En zoals Ik van mijn Vader de macht heb gekregen, zal die persoon van Mij de morgenster krijgen. 29 Als je oren hebt, luister dan naar hetgeen de Geest tegen de kerkgemeenschappen zegt.’
