1-3So clean house! Make a clean sweep of malice and pretense, envy and hurtful talk. You’ve had a taste of God. Now, like infants at the breast, drink deep of God’s pure kindness. Then you’ll grow up mature and whole in God.

4-8Welcome to the living Stone, the source of life. The workmen took one look and threw it out; God set it in the place of honor. Present yourselves as building stones for the construction of a sanctuary vibrant with life, in which you’ll serve as holy priests offering Christ-approved lives up to God. The Scriptures provide precedent:Look! I’m setting a stone in Zion,a cornerstone in the place of honor.Whoever trusts in this stone as a foundationwill never have cause to regret it.To you who trust him, he’s a Stone to be proud of, but to those who refuse to trust him,The stone the workmen threw outis now the chief foundation stone.For the untrusting it’s. . . a stone to trip over,a boulder blocking the way.They trip and fall because they refuse to obey, just as predicted.

21-25This is the kind of life you’ve been invited into, the kind of life Christ lived. He suffered everything that came his way so you would know that it could be done, and also know how to do it, step-by-step.He never did one thing wrong,Not once said anything amiss.They called him every name in the book and he said nothing back. He suffered in silence, content to let God set things right. He used his servant body to carry our sins to the Cross so we could be rid of sin, free to live the right way. His wounds became your healing. You were lost sheep with no idea who you were or where you were going. Now you’re named and kept for good by the Shepherd of your souls.

19-21So, friends, we can now—without hesitation—walk right up to God, into "the Holy Place." Jesus has cleared the way by the blood of his sacrifice, acting as our priest before God. The "curtain" into God’s presence is his body.

26-31If we give up and turn our backs on all we’ve learned, all we’ve been given, all the truth we now know, we repudiate Christ’s sacrifice and are left on our own to face the Judgment—and a mighty fierce judgment it will be! If the penalty for breaking the law of Moses is physical death, what do you think will happen if you turn on God’s Son, spit on the sacrifice that made you whole, and insult this most gracious Spirit? This is no light matter. God has warned us that he’ll hold us to account and make us pay. He was quite explicit: "Vengeance is mine, and I won’t overlook a thing" and "God will judge his people." Nobody’s getting by with anything, believe me.

32-39Remember those early days after you first saw the light? Those were the hard times! Kicked around in public, targets of every kind of abuse—some days it was you, other days your friends. If some friends went to prison, you stuck by them. If some enemies broke in and seized your goods, you let them go with a smile, knowing they couldn’t touch your real treasure. Nothing they did bothered you, nothing set you back. So don’t throw it all away now. You were sure of yourselves then. It’s still a sure thing! But you need to stick it out, staying with God’s plan so you’ll be there for the promised completion.It won’t be long now, he’s on the way;he’ll show up most any minute.But anyone who is right with me thrives on loyal trust;if he cuts and runs, I won’t be very happy.But we’re not quitters who lose out. Oh, no! We’ll stay with it and survive, trusting all the way.

10But only if you listen obediently to God, your God, and keep the commandments and regulations written in this Book of Revelation. Nothing halfhearted here; you must return to God, your God, totally, heart and soul, holding nothing back.

15Look at what I’ve done for you today: I’ve placed in front of youLife and GoodDeath and Evil.

19,20I call Heaven and Earth to witness against you today: I place before you Life and Death, Blessing and Curse. Choose life so that you and your children will live. And love God, your God, listening obediently to him, firmly embracing him. Oh yes, he is life itself, a long life settled on the soil that God, your God, promised to give your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

14-16Taking a good look at them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests."They went, and while still on their way, became clean. One of them, when he realized that he was healed, turned around and came back, shouting his gratitude, glorifying God. He kneeled at Jesus’ feet, so grateful. He couldn’t thank him enough—and he was a Samaritan.

17-19Jesus said, "Were not ten healed? Where are the nine? Can none be found to come back and give glory to God except this outsider?" Then he said to him, "Get up. On your way. Your faith has healed and saved you."

34,35"On that Day, two men will be in the same boat fishing—one taken, the other left. Two women will be working in the same kitchen—one taken, the other left."

6,7Don’t let yourselves get taken in by religious smooth talk. God gets furious with people who are full of religious sales talk but want nothing to do with him. Don’t even hang around people like that.

8-10You groped your way through that murk once, but no longer. You’re out in the open now. The bright light of Christ makes your way plain. So no more stumbling around. Get on with it! The good, the right, the true—these are the actions appropriate for daylight hours. Figure out what will please Christ, and then do it.

11-16Don’t waste your time on useless work, mere busywork, the barren pursuits of darkness. Expose these things for the sham they are. It’s a scandal when people waste their lives on things they must do in the darkness where no one will see. Rip the cover off those frauds and see how attractive they look in the light of Christ.Wake up from your sleep,Climb out of your coffins;Christ will show you the light!So watch your step. Use your head. Make the most of every chance you get. These are desperate times!

15-17It so happened that the words were barely out of his mouth when Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel whose mother was Milcah the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, came out with a water jug on her shoulder. The girl was stunningly beautiful, a pure virgin. She went down to the spring, filled her jug, and came back up. The servant ran to meet her and said, "Please, can I have a sip of water from your jug?"

56He said, "Oh, don’t make me wait! God has worked everything out so well—send me off to my master."

59,60So they sent them off, their sister Rebekah with her nurse, and Abraham’s servant with his men. And they blessed Rebekah saying,You’re our sister—live bountifully!And your children, triumphantly!

1-4I, Paul, am God’s slave and Christ’s agent for promoting the faith among God’s chosen people, getting out the accurate word on God and how to respond rightly to it. My aim is to raise hopes by pointing the way to life without end. This is the life God promised long ago—and he doesn’t break promises! And then when the time was ripe, he went public with his truth. I’ve been entrusted to proclaim this Message by order of our Savior, God himself. Dear Titus, legitimate son in the faith: Receive everything God our Father and Jesus our Savior give you!

10-16For there are a lot of rebels out there, full of loose, confusing, and deceiving talk. Those who were brought up religious and ought to know better are the worst. They’ve got to be shut up. They’re disrupting entire families with their teaching, and all for the sake of a fast buck. One of their own prophets said it best:The Cretans are liars from the womb,barking dogs, lazy bellies.He certainly spoke the truth. Get on them right away. Stop that diseased talk of Jewish make-believe and made-up rules so they can recover a robust faith. Everything is clean to the clean-minded; nothing is clean to dirty-minded unbelievers. They leave their dirty fingerprints on every thought and act. They say they know God, but their actions speak louder than their words. They’re real creeps, disobedient good-for-nothings.

8-10"Open up, heavens, and rain.Clouds, pour out buckets of my goodness!Loosen up, earth, and bloom salvation;sprout right living.I, God, generate all this.But doom to you who fight your Maker—you’re a pot at odds with the potter!Does clay talk back to the potter:‘What are you doing? What clumsy fingers!’Would a sperm say to a father,‘Who gave you permission to use me to make a baby?’Or a fetus to a mother,‘Why have you cooped me up in this belly?’"

15-17Clearly, you are a God who works behind the scenes,God of Israel, Savior God.Humiliated, all those otherswill be ashamed to show their faces in public.Out of work and at loose ends, the makers of no-god idolswon’t know what to do with themselves.The people of Israel, though, are saved by you, God,saved with an eternal salvation.They won’t be ashamed,they won’t be at loose ends, ever.

1I saw another Sign in Heaven, huge and breathtaking: seven Angels with seven disasters. These are the final disasters, the wrap-up of God’s wrath.

2-4I saw something like a sea made of glass, the glass all shot through with fire. Carrying harps of God, triumphant over the Beast, its image, and the number of its name, the saved ones stood on the sea of glass. They sang the Song of Moses, servant of God; they sang the Song of the Lamb:Mighty your acts and marvelous,O God, the Sovereign-Strong!Righteous your ways and true,King of the nations!Who can fail to fear you, God,give glory to your Name?Because you and you only are holy,all nations will come and worship you,because they see your judgments are right.

5-8Then I saw the doors of the Temple, the Tent of Witness in Heaven, open wide. The Seven Angels carrying the seven disasters came out of the Temple. They were dressed in clean, bright linen and wore gold vests. One of the Four Animals handed the Seven Angels seven gold bowls, brimming with the wrath of God, who lives forever and ever. Smoke from God’s glory and power poured out of the Temple. No one was permitted to enter the Temple until the seven disasters of the Seven Angels were finished.

2-6This is the way God put it:"They found grace out in the desert,these people who survived the killing.Israel, out looking for a place to rest,met God out looking for them!"God told them, "I’ve never quit loving you and never will.Expect love, love, and more love!And so now I’ll start over with you and build you up again,dear virgin Israel.You’ll resume your singing,grabbing tambourines and joining the dance.You’ll go back to your old work of planting vineyardson the Samaritan hillsides,And sit back and enjoy the fruit—oh, how you’ll enjoy those harvests!The time’s coming when watchmen will call outfrom the hilltops of Ephraim:‘On your feet! Let’s go to Zion,go to meet our God!’"* * *

7Oh yes, God says so:"Shout for joy at the top of your lungs for Jacob!Announce the good news to the number-one nation!Raise cheers! Sing praises. Say,‘God has saved his people,saved the core of Israel.’

35God’s Message, from the God who lights up the day with sun andbrightens the night with moon and stars,Who whips the ocean into a billowy froth,whose name is God-of-the-Angel-Armies:

13Then Jesus turned to the captain and said, "Go. What you believed could happen has happened." At that moment his servant became well.

23-25Then he got in the boat, his disciples with him. The next thing they knew, they were in a severe storm. Waves were crashing into the boat—and he was sound asleep! They roused him, pleading, "Master, save us! We’re going down!"

26Jesus reprimanded them. "Why are you such cowards, such faint-hearts?" Then he stood up and told the wind to be silent, the sea to quiet down: "Silence!" The sea became smooth as glass.

16,17Less is more and more is less.One righteous will outclass fifty wicked,For the wicked are moral weaklingsbut the righteous are God-strong.

34Wait passionately for God,don’t leave the path.He’ll give you your place in the sunwhile you watch the wicked lose it.

39,40The spacious, free life is from God,it’s also protected and safe.God-strengthened, we’re delivered from evil—when we run to him, he saves us.

1-5Don’t be naive. There are difficult times ahead. As the end approaches, people are going to be self-absorbed, money-hungry, self-promoting, stuck-up, profane, contemptuous of parents, crude, coarse, dog-eat-dog, unbending, slanderers, impulsively wild, savage, cynical, treacherous, ruthless, bloated windbags, addicted to lust, and allergic to God. They’ll make a show of religion, but behind the scenes they’re animals. Stay clear of these people.

10-13You’ve been a good apprentice to me, a part of my teaching, my manner of life, direction, faith, steadiness, love, patience, troubles, sufferings—suffering along with me in all the grief I had to put up with in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. And you also well know that God rescued me! Anyone who wants to live all out for Christ is in for a lot of trouble; there’s no getting around it. Unscrupulous con men will continue to exploit the faith. They’re as deceived as the people they lead astray. As long as they are out there, things can only get worse.

14-17But don’t let it faze you. Stick with what you learned and believed, sure of the integrity of your teachers—why, you took in the sacred Scriptures with your mother’s milk! There’s nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.

46-55And Mary said,I’m bursting with God-news;I’m dancing the song of my Savior God.God took one good look at me, and look what happened—I’m the most fortunate woman on earth!What God has done for me will never be forgotten,the God whose very name is holy, set apart from all others.His mercy flows in wave after waveon those who are in awe before him.He bared his arm and showed his strength,scattered the bluffing braggarts.He knocked tyrants off their high horses,pulled victims out of the mud.The starving poor sat down to a banquet;the callous rich were left out in the cold.He embraced his chosen child, Israel;he remembered and piled on the mercies, piled them high.It’s exactly what he promised,beginning with Abraham and right up to now.

67-79Then Zachariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied,Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;he came and set his people free.He set the power of salvation in the center of our lives,and in the very house of David his servant,Just as he promised long agothrough the preaching of his holy prophets:Deliverance from our enemiesand every hateful hand;Mercy to our fathers,as he remembers to do what he said he’d do,What he swore to our father Abraham—a clean rescue from the enemy camp,So we can worship him without a care in the world,made holy before him as long as we live.And you, my child, "Prophet of the Highest,"will go ahead of the Master to prepare his ways,Present the offer of salvation to his people,the forgiveness of their sins.Through the heartfelt mercies of our God,God’s Sunrise will break in upon us,Shining on those in the darkness,those sitting in the shadow of death,Then showing us the way, one foot at a time,down the path of peace.

80The child grew up, healthy and spirited. He lived out in the desert until the day he made his prophetic debut in Israel.

1,2Wake up, wake up! Pull on your boots, Zion!Dress up in your Sunday best, Jerusalem, holy city!Those who want no part of God have been culled out.They won’t be coming along.Brush off the dust and get to your feet, captive Jerusalem!Throw off your chains, captive daughter of Zion!

7-10How beautiful on the mountainsare the feet of the messenger bringing good news,Breaking the news that all’s well,proclaiming good times, announcing salvation,telling Zion, "Your God reigns!"Voices! Listen! Your scouts are shouting, thunderclap shouts,shouting in joyful unison.They see with their own eyesGod coming back to Zion.Break into song! Boom it out, ruins of Jerusalem:"God has comforted his people!He’s redeemed Jerusalem!"God has rolled up his sleeves.All the nations can see his holy, muscled arm.Everyone, from one end of the earth to the other,sees him at work, doing his salvation work.

11,12Out of here! Out of here! Leave this place!Don’t look back. Don’t contaminate yourselves with plunder.Just leave, but leave clean. Purify yourselvesin the process of worship, carrying the holy vessels of God.But you don’t have to be in a hurry.You’re not running from anybody!God is leading you out of here,and the God of Israel is also your rear guard.

1,2A revealing of Jesus, the Messiah. God gave it to make plain to his servants what is about to happen. He published and delivered it by Angel to his servant John. And John told everything he saw: God’s Word—the witness of Jesus Christ!

3How blessed the reader! How blessed the hearers and keepers of these oracle words, all the words written in this book!Time is just about up.

4-7I, John, am writing this to the seven churches in Asia province: All the best to you from The God Who Is, The God Who Was, and The God About to Arrive, and from the Seven Spirits assembled before his throne, and from Jesus Christ—Loyal Witness, Firstborn from the dead, Ruler of all earthly kings.Glory and strength to Christ, who loves us,who blood-washed our sins from our lives,Who made us a Kingdom, Priests for his Father,forever—and yes, he’s on his way!Riding the clouds, he’ll be seen by every eye,those who mocked and killed him will see him,People from all nations and all timeswill tear their clothes in lament.Oh, Yes.

1,2My God! Rescue me from my enemies,defend me from these mutineers.Rescue me from their dirty tricks,save me from their hit men.

16,17And me? I’m singing your prowess,shouting at dawn your largesse,For you’ve been a safe place for me,a good place to hide.Strong God, I’m watching you do it,I can always count on you—God, my dependable love.

7-9I’ll make a list of God’s gracious dealings,all the things God has done that need praising,All the generous bounties of God,his great goodness to the family of Israel—Compassion lavished,love extravagant.He said, "Without question these are my people,children who would never betray me."So he became their Savior.In all their troubles,he was troubled, too.He didn’t send someone else to help them.He did it himself, in person.Out of his own love and pityhe redeemed them.He rescued them and carried them alongfor a long, long time.

4,5Remember me, God, when you enjoy your people;include me when you save them;I want to see your chosen succeed,celebrate with your celebrating nation,join the Hallelujahs of your pride and joy!

6-12We’ve sinned a lot, both we and our parents;We’ve fallen short, hurt a lot of people.After our parents left Egypt,they took your wonders for granted,forgot your great and wonderful love.They were barely beyond the Red Seawhen they defied the High God—the very place he saved them!—the place he revealed his amazing power!He rebuked the Red Sea so that it dried up on the spot—he paraded them right through!—no one so much as got wet feet!He saved them from a life of oppression,pried them loose from the grip of the enemy.Then the waters flowed back on their oppressors;there wasn’t a single survivor.Then they believed his words were trueand broke out in songs of praise.

47,48Save us, God, our God!Gather us back out of exileSo we can give thanks to your holy nameand join in the glory when you are praised!Blessed be God, Israel’s God!Bless now, bless always!Oh! Let everyone say Amen!Hallelujah!

29,30"Yes," said Jesus, "and you won’t regret it. No one who has sacrificed home, spouse, brothers and sisters, parents, children—whatever—will lose out. It will all come back multiplied many times over in your lifetime. And then the bonus of eternal life!"

38He yelled, "Jesus! Son of David! Mercy, have mercy on me!"

42,43Jesus said, "Go ahead—see again! Your faith has saved and healed you!" The healing was instant: He looked up, seeing—and then followed Jesus, glorifying God. Everyone in the street joined in, shouting praise to God.
