4 *got up from supper and *laid His outer garments aside; and He took a towel and tied it around Himself.
5 Then He *poured water into the basin, and began washing the disciples’ feet and wiping them with the towel which He had tied around Himself.
14 So if I, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.15 For I gave you an example, so that you also would do just as I did for you.
4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. 5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. 14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
4 so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.
4 rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, [ch. 21:7;Luke 22:27]tied it around his waist. 5 Then he [2 Kgs. 3:11]poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, 1 Tim. 5:10;[1 Pet. 5:5]you also ought to wash one another’s feet.15 For I have given you an example, See Matt. 11:29that you also should do just as I have done to you.
4 So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.
14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet.15 I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.
4 (Luke 22:27; Phil. 2:7, 8)rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. 5 After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.
14 Luke 22:27If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, (Rom. 12:10; Gal. 6:1, 2; 1 Pet. 5:5)you also ought to wash one another’s feet.15 For Matt. 11:29; Phil. 2:5; (1 Pet. 2:21–24); 1 John 2:6I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.
4 So he got up from supper, laid aside his outer clothing, 13:4 Lk 19:36 took a towel, and tied it around himself. 13:4 Lk 12:375 Next, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet and to dry them with the towel tied around him.
14 So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 13:14 1Tm 5:10; 1Pt 5:515 For I have given you an example, 13:15 1Pt 2:21that you also should do just as I have done for you.
4 He riseth from supper, and layeth aside his garments, and having taken a towel, girded himself. 5 After that, he putteth water into a basin, and began to wash the feet of the disciples, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. 14 If then I being your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that as I have done to you, so you do also.
3-6 Jesus knew that the Father had put him in complete charge of everything, that he came from God and was on his way back to God. So he got up from the supper table, set aside his robe, and put on an apron. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the feet of the disciples, drying them with his apron. When he got to Simon Peter, Peter said, "Master, you wash my feet?"
12-17 Then he said, "Do you understand what I have done to you? You address me as ‘Teacher’ and ‘Master,’ and rightly so. That is what I am. So if I, the Master and Teacher, washed your feet, you must now wash each other’s feet. I’ve laid down a pattern for you. What I’ve done, you do. I’m only pointing out the obvious. A servant is not ranked above his master; an employee doesn’t give orders to the employer. If you understand what I’m telling you, act like it—and live a blessed life.
