Jeremiah 23:25-28

NASB New American Standard Bible 2020

25 "I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy falsely in My name, saying, ‘I had a dream, I had a dream!’ 26 How long? Is there anything in the hearts of the prophets who prophesy falsehood, these prophets of the deceitfulness of their own heart, 27 who intend to make My people forget My name by their dreams which they report to one another, just as their fathers forgot My name because of Baal? 28 The prophet who has a dream may report his dream, but let him who has My word speak My word truthfully. What does straw have in common with grain?" declares the Lord.

  1. KJV King James Version

25 I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. 26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart; 27 Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal. 28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD.23.28 that hath a dream: Heb. with whom is, etc

  2. NIV New International Version

25 "I have heard what the prophets say who prophesy lies in my name. They say, ‘I had a dream! I had a dream!’ 26 How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions of their own minds? 27 They think the dreams they tell one another will make my people forget my name, just as their ancestors forgot my name through Baal worship. 28 Let the prophet who has a dream recount the dream, but let the one who has my word speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?" declares the Lord.

  3. ESV English Standard Version

25 I have heard what the prophets have said See ch. 5:31who prophesy lies in my name, saying, [Zech. 10:2]‘I have dreamed, I have dreamed!’ 26 How long shall there be lies in the heart of [ver. 16, 21; Num. 16:28]the prophets who prophesy lies, and who prophesy the deceit of their own heart, 27 who think to make my people forget my name [See ver. 25above] by their dreams that they tell one another, even as their Judg. 3:7;8:33,34fathers forgot my name for Baal? 28 [Num. 12:6] Let the prophet who has a dream ver. 25tell the dream, but let him who has my word speak my word faithfully. [Luke 3:17]What has straw in common with wheat? declares the Lord.

  4. NLT New Living Translation

25 "I have heard these prophets say, ‘Listen to the dream I had from God last night.’ And then they proceed to tell lies in my name. 26 How long will this go on? If they are prophets, they are prophets of deceit, inventing everything they say. 27 By telling these false dreams, they are trying to get my people to forget me, just as their ancestors did by worshiping the idols of Baal.

28 "Let these false prophets tell their dreams,

but let my true messengers faithfully proclaim my every word.

There is a difference between straw and grain!

  5. NKJV Nova Versão King James

25 "I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in My name, saying, ‘I have dreamed, I have dreamed!’ 26 How long will this be in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies? Indeed theyare prophets of the deceit of their own heart, 27 who try to make My people forget My name by their dreams which everyone tells his neighbor, Judg. 3:7as their fathers forgot My name for Baal.

    28 "The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream;

And he who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully.

What is the chaff to the wheat?" says the Lord.

25 I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, and say: I have dreamed, I have dreamed. 26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies, and that prophesy the delusions of their own heart? 27 Who seek to make my people forget my name through their dreams, which they tell every man to his neighbor: as their fathers forgot my name for Baal. 28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream: and he that hath my word, let him speak my word with truth: what hath the chaff to do with the wheat, saith the Lord?

  8. MSG The Message

25-27 "I know what they’re saying, all these prophets who preach lies using me as their text, saying ‘I had this dream! I had this dream!’ How long do I have to put up with this? Do these prophets give two cents about me as they preach their lies and spew out their grandiose delusions? They swap dreams with one another, feed on each other’s delusive dreams, trying to distract my people from me just as their ancestors were distracted by the no-god Baal.

28,29 "You prophets who do nothing but dream—

go ahead and tell your silly dreams.

But you prophets who have a message from me—

    tell it truly and faithfully.

What does straw have in common with wheat?

Nothing else is like God’s Decree.

Isn’t my Message like fire?" God’s Decree.

"Isn’t it like a sledgehammer busting a rock?
