The Zeal of Phinehas

10 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 11 "Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has averted My wrath from the sons of Israel in that he was *25:11 Or possibly zealous; i.e., impassionedjealous with My *25:11 Or possibly angerjealousy among them, so that I did not destroy the sons of Israel in My *25:11 Or possibly angerjealousy. 12 Therefore say, ‘Behold, I am giving him My covenant of peace; 13 and it shall be for him and for his *25:13 Lit seeddescendants after him, a covenant of a permanent priesthood, because he was *25:13 Or possibly zealous; i.e., impassionedjealous for his God and made atonement for the sons of Israel.’ "
