Romans 10:12-17

NASB New American Standard Bible 2020

12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; 13 for "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

14 How then are they to call on Him in whom they have not believed? How are they to believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher? 15 But how are they to preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who10:15 Or preach the gospelbring good news of good things!"

16 However, they did not all heed the 10:16 Or gospelgood news; for Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?" 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word 10:17 Or concerning Christof Christ.

  1. KJV King James Version

12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

  2. NIV New International Version

12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."10:13 Joel 2:32

14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"10:15 Isaiah 52:7

16 But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our message?"10:16 Isaiah 53:117 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

  3. ESV English Standard Version

12 See ch. 3:22,29For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; Acts 10:36for the same Lord is Lord of all, See ch. 2:4bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For Acts 2:21;Cited from Joel 2:32"everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him Eph. 4:21;[John 9:36;17:20] of whom they have never heard?10:14 Or him whom they have never heard And how are they to hear [Acts 8:31;Titus 1:3]without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, Cited from Isa. 52:7;[Nah. 1:15;Eph. 6:15]"How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!" 16 But ch. 3:3;Heb. 4:2they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, John 12:38;Cited from Isa. 53:1"Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?" 17 So Gal. 3:2,5faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

  4. NLT New Living Translation

12 Jew and Gentile10:12 Greek and Greek. are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. 13 For "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."10:13 Joel 2:32.

14 But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? 15 And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, "How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!"10:15 Isa 52:7.

16 But not everyone welcomes the Good News, for Isaiah the prophet said, "Lord, who has believed our message?"10:16 Isa 53:1.17 So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.

Is. 52:7; Nah. 1:15"How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,

Who bring glad tidings of good things!"

16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, Is. 53:1; John 12:38"Lord, who has believed our report?" 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

  8. MSG The Message

11-13 Scripture reassures us, "No one who trusts God like this—heart and soul—will ever regret it." It’s exactly the same no matter what a person’s religious background may be: the same God for all of us, acting the same incredibly generous way to everyone who calls out for help. "Everyone who calls, ‘Help, God!’ gets help."

14-17 But how can people call for help if they don’t know who to trust? And how can they know who to trust if they haven’t heard of the One who can be trusted? And how can they hear if nobody tells them? And how is anyone going to tell them, unless someone is sent to do it? That’s why Scripture exclaims,

A sight to take your breath away!

    Grand processions of people

telling all the good things of God!

But not everybody is ready for this, ready to see and hear and act. Isaiah asked what we all ask at one time or another: "Does anyone care, God? Is anyone listening and believing a word of it?" The point is: Before you trust, you have to listen. But unless Christ’s Word is preached, there’s nothing to listen to.
