1 When Jesus had finished saying these things, he left Galilee and went into the region of Judea to the other side of the Jordan. 2 Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.

3 Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?"

4 "Haven’t you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’*19:4 Gen. 1:275 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’*19:5 Gen. 2:24?6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate."

7 "Why then," they asked, "did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?"

8 Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning.9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery."

10 The disciples said to him, "If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry."

11 Jesus replied, "Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given.12 For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others—and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it."

13 Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them.

14 Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."15 When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.

16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?"

17 "Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments."

18 "Which ones?" he inquired.

Jesus replied, " ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony,19 honor your father and mother,’*19:19 Exodus 20:12-16; Deut. 5:16-20and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’*19:19 Lev. 19:18"

20 "All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?"

21 Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God."

25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, "Who then can be saved?"

26 Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

27 Peter answered him, "We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?"

28 Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife*19:29 Some manuscripts do not have or wife.or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.30 But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.

1 Quando acabou de dizer essas coisas, Jesus saiu da Galileia e foi para a região da Judeia, no outro lado do Jordão. 2 Grandes multidões o seguiam, e ele as curou ali.

3 Alguns fariseus aproximaram-se dele para pô-lo à prova e perguntaram-lhe:

— É permitido ao homem divorciar-se da sua mulher por qualquer motivo?

4 Ele respondeu:

— Vocês não leram que, no princípio, o Criador "os fez homem e mulher"*19.4 Gn 1.27.5 e disse: "Por essa razão, o homem deixará pai e mãe e se unirá à sua mulher, e os dois se tornarão uma só carne"?*19.5 Gn 2.24.6 Assim, eles já não são dois, mas sim uma só carne. Portanto, ninguém separe o que Deus uniu.

7 Eles perguntaram:

— Então, por que Moisés mandou dar-lhe uma certidão de divórcio e mandá-la embora?

8 Jesus respondeu:

— Moisés permitiu que vocês se divorciassem das suas mulheres por causa da dureza do coração de vocês. Mas não foi assim desde o princípio. 9 No entanto, eu digo que todo aquele que se divorciar da sua mulher, exceto por imoralidade sexual,*19.9 Grego: porneia; termo genérico que se refere a práticas sexuais ilícitas. e se casar com outra mulher comete adultério.

10 Os discípulos lhe disseram:

— Se esta é a situação entre o homem e a sua mulher, é melhor não casar.

11 Jesus respondeu:

— Nem todos têm condições de aceitar esta palavra; somente aqueles a quem isso é dado. 12 Alguns são eunucos porque nasceram assim; outros foram feitos assim pelos homens; outros ainda se fizeram eunucos*19.12 Ou renunciaram a casar-se. por causa do reino dos céus. Quem puder aceitar isso aceite.

13 Depois, trouxeram crianças a Jesus, para que lhes impusesse as mãos e orasse por elas, mas os discípulos os repreendiam.

14 Então, Jesus disse:

— Deixem vir a mim as crianças e não as impeçam, pois o reino dos céus pertence aos que são semelhantes a elas.

15 Depois de lhes impor as mãos, partiu dali.

16 Um jovem se aproximou de Jesus e lhe perguntou:

— Mestre, que farei de bom para ter a vida eterna?

17 — Por que você me pergunta sobre o que é bom? — Jesus respondeu —. Há somente um que é bom. Se você quer entrar na vida, obedeça aos mandamentos.

18 — Quais? — perguntou.

Jesus respondeu:

— "Não assassine, não adultere, não furte, não dê falso testemunho, 19 honre o seu pai e a sua mãe"*19.19 Êx 20.12-16; Dt 5.16-20. e "ame ao seu próximo como a você mesmo".*19.19 Lv 19.18.

20 O jovem lhe disse:

— A tudo isso tenho obedecido. O que ainda me falta?

21 Jesus respondeu:

— Se você quer ser perfeito, vá, venda os seus bens e dê o dinheiro aos pobres, e terá um tesouro nos céus. Depois, venha e siga-me.

22 Ouvindo isso, o jovem afastou-se triste, porque tinha muitas riquezas.

23 Então, Jesus disse aos seus discípulos:

— Em verdade lhes digo que é difícil a um rico entrar no reino dos céus. 24 E digo ainda que é mais fácil um camelo passar pelo fundo de uma agulha do que um rico entrar no reino de Deus.

25 Quando os discípulos ouviram isso, ficaram perplexos e perguntaram:

— Então, quem pode ser salvo?

26 Jesus olhou para eles e respondeu:

— Para o homem é impossível, mas para Deus todas as coisas são possíveis.

27 Então, Pedro lhe respondeu:

— Nós deixamos tudo para seguir-te! Que será de nós?

28 Jesus lhes disse:

— Em verdade lhes digo que, quando o Filho do homem se assentar no seu glorioso trono, na renovação de todas as coisas, vocês que me seguiram também se assentarão em doze tronos para julgar as doze tribos de Israel. 29 E todo aquele que tenha deixado casa, irmãos, irmãs, pai, mãe, esposa,*19.29 Há manuscritos que não trazem esposa. filhos ou campos, por causa do meu nome, receberá cem vezes mais e herdará a vida eterna. 30 Contudo, muitos primeiros serão últimos, e os últimos serão primeiros.
