1 Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. 4 Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
5 Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law: "The person who does these things will live by them."10:5 Lev. 18:56 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ "10:6 Deut. 30:12 (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or ‘Who will descend into the deep?’ "10:7 Deut. 30:13 (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,"10:8 Deut. 30:14 that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: 9 If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, "Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame."10:11 Isaiah 28:16 (see Septuagint)12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."10:13 Joel 2:32
14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"10:15 Isaiah 52:7
16 But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our message?"10:16 Isaiah 53:117 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. 18 But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did:
"Their voice has gone out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world."10:18 Psalm 19:4
19 Again I ask: Did Israel not understand? First, Moses says,
"I will make you envious by those who are not a nation;
I will make you angry by a nation that has no understanding."10:19 Deut. 32:21
20 And Isaiah boldly says,
"I was found by those who did not seek me;
I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me."10:20 Isaiah 65:1
21 But concerning Israel he says,
"All day long I have held out my hands
to a disobedient and obstinate people."10:21 Isaiah 65:2
1 Irmãos, o desejo do meu coração e a minha oração a Deus pelos israelitas é que eles sejam salvos. 2 Pois posso testemunhar que eles têm zelo por Deus, mas é um zelo sem entendimento. 3 Uma vez que ignoram a justiça de Deus e procuram estabelecer a sua própria, não se submeteram à justiça de Deus. 4 Porque o fim da lei é Cristo, para a justiça de todo aquele que crê.
5 Moisés descreve a justiça que se baseia na lei desta forma: "O homem que praticar essas coisas viverá por meio delas".10.5 Lv 18.5.6 Mas a justiça que vem da fé diz: "Não diga no seu coração: ‘Quem subirá ao céu?’,10.6 Dt 30.12. isto é, para fazer Cristo descer; 7 ou: ‘Quem descerá ao abismo?’ ",10.7 Dt 30.13. isto é, para fazer Cristo subir dentre os mortos. 8 Mas o que ela diz? "A palavra está próxima de você; está na sua boca e no seu coração",10.8 Dt 30.14. isto é, a palavra da fé que proclamamos: 9 se com a boca você confessar que Jesus é Senhor e crer no seu coração que Deus o ressuscitou dentre os mortos, será salvo. 10 Porque com o coração se crê para a justiça e com a boca se confessa para a salvação. 11 Pois a Escritura diz: "Todo aquele que nele confia jamais será envergonhado".10.11 Is 28.16.12 Portanto, não há diferença entre judeus e gregos, porque o mesmo Senhor de todos abençoa generosamente todos os que o invocam, 13 pois "todo aquele que invocar o nome do Senhor será salvo".10.13 Jl 2.32.
14 Como, então, invocarão aquele em quem não creram? E como crerão naquele de quem não ouviram? E como ouvirão se não houver quem pregue? 15 E como pregarão se não forem enviados? Como está escrito: "Como são belos os pés daqueles que anunciam boas-novas!".10.15 Is 52.7.
16 No entanto, nem todos se submeteram ao evangelho, pois Isaías diz: "Senhor, quem creu na nossa mensagem?".10.16 Is 53.1.17 Consequentemente, a fé vem pelo ouvir, e ouvir a palavra de Cristo. 18 Mas eu pergunto: eles não a ouviram? Claro que sim:
"A sua voz ressoou por toda a terra;
as suas palavras, até os confins do mundo".10.18 Sl 19.4.
19 Mais uma vez, pergunto: será que Israel não entendeu? Em primeiro lugar, Moisés disse:
"Farei que tenham ciúmes de quem não é meu povo;
eu provocarei a ira deles por meio de uma nação insensata".10.19 Dt 32.21.
20 Depois, Isaías diz ousadamente:
"Fui achado por aqueles que não me procuravam;
revelei-me aos que não perguntavam por mim".10.20 Is 65.1.
21 A respeito de Israel, porém, ele diz:
"O dia todo estendi as mãos
a um povo desobediente e rebelde".10.21 Is 65.2.
