Romans 12

A Living Sacrifice

1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Humble Service in the Body of Christ

3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your*12:6 Or the faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,*12:8 Or to provide for others do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

Love in Action

9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.*12:16 Or willing to do menial work Do not be conceited.

17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay,"*12:19 Deut. 32:35 says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:

"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;

if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.

In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."*12:20 Prov. 25:21,22

21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Sacrifício vivo

1 Portanto, irmãos, peço, pelas misericórdias de Deus, que ofereçam o corpo de vocês como sacrifício vivo, santo e agradável a Deus: este é o culto racional de vocês. 2 Não se amoldem ao padrão deste mundo, mas transformem-se pela renovação da sua mente, para que vocês experimentem a boa, agradável e perfeita vontade de Deus.

3 Por isso, pela graça que me foi dada, digo a todos vocês: não pensem de vocês mesmos além do que devem pensar, mas pensem moderadamente, segundo a medida de fé que Deus deu a cada um. 4 Como cada um de nós tem um corpo com muitos membros, e esses membros não têm todos a mesma função, 5 assim, em Cristo, nós, que somos muitos, formamos um só corpo, e cada membro está ligado a todos os outros. 6 Temos diferentes dons, de acordo com a graça que nos foi dada. Se alguém tem o dom de profetizar, use-o de acordo com a*12.6 Ou a fé. sua fé; 7 se o dom é servir, sirva; se é ensinar, ensine; 8 se é encorajar, que assim o faça; se é contribuir, que contribua generosamente; se é exercer liderança, que a exerça com dedicação; se é mostrar misericórdia, que o faça com alegria.

O amor em ação

9 O amor deve ser sincero. Odeiem o que é mau; apeguem-se ao que é bom. 10 Dediquem-se uns aos outros com amor fraternal, preferindo dar honra aos outros mais do que a vocês. 11 Nunca falte a vocês o zelo; antes, sejam fervorosos no espírito, servindo ao Senhor. 12 Alegrem-se na esperança, sejam pacientes na tribulação, perseverem na oração. 13 Compartilhem o que vocês têm com os santos que estão em necessidade e procurem ser hospitaleiros.

14 Abençoem aqueles que os perseguem; abençoem-nos, não os amaldiçoem. 15 Alegrem-se com os que se alegram e chorem com os que choram. 16 Tenham a mesma atitude uns para com os outros; não sejam arrogantes, mas estejam dispostos a associar-se a pessoas humildes.*12.16 Ou mas adotem um comportamento humilde. Não sejam sábios aos seus próprios olhos.

17 Não paguem a ninguém o mal com o mal. Procurem agir corretamente diante de todos os homens. 18 Se possível, naquilo que depender de vocês, vivam em paz com todos os homens. 19 Amados, nunca procurem vingar-se, mas deixem com Deus a ira, pois está escrito: "Minha é a vingança; eu retribuirei",*12.19 Dt 32.35. diz o Senhor. 20 Ao contrário:

"Se o seu inimigo tiver fome, dê-lhe de comer;

se tiver sede, dê-lhe de beber.

Fazendo isso, você amontoará brasas vivas sobre a cabeça dele".*12.20 Pv 25.21,22.

21 Não se deixem vencer pelo mal, mas vençam o mal com o bem.
