8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and *Ps. 90:4a thousand years as one day. 9 *Hab. 2:3; Rom. 13:11; Heb. 10:37The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but *Ps. 86:15; Is. 30:18is longsuffering toward us, *Ezek. 33:11not willing that any should perish but *Matt. 20:28; (Rom. 2:4)that all should come to repentance.

The Day of the Lord

10 But *Matt. 24:42, 43; Luke 12:39; 1 Thess. 5:2; Rev. 3:3; 16:15the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which *Gen. 1:6–8; Ps. 102:25, 26; Is. 51:6; Rev. 20:11the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
