12Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.

9Dear friends, even though we are talking this way, we really don’t believe it applies to you. We are confident that you are meant for better things, things that come with salvation.

18So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.

19This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.

2Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.

4And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.

5And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

11My days are over.My hopes have disappeared.My heart’s desires are broken.

15Where then is my hope?Can anyone find it?

16No, my hope will go down with me to the grave.We will rest together in the dust!"

4For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all of God’s people,

5which come from your confident hope of what God has reserved for you in heaven. You have had this expectation ever since you first heard the truth of the Good News.

11We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy,1:11 Or all the patience and endurance you need with joy.

81I am worn out waiting for your rescue,but I have put my hope in your word.

13Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

3It seems so wrong that everyone under the sun suffers the same fate. Already twisted by evil, people choose their own mad course, for they have no hope. There is nothing ahead but death anyway.

4There is hope only for the living. As they say, "It’s better to be a live dog than a dead lion!"

13So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.

21Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory.

3Clearly, you are a letter from Christ showing the result of our ministry among you. This "letter" is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts.

8Shouldn’t we expect far greater glory under the new way, now that the Holy Spirit is giving life?

9If the old way, which brings condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new way, which makes us right with God!

12But we worship at your throne—eternal, high, and glorious!

13O Lord, the hope of Israel,all who turn away from you will be disgraced.They will be buried in the dust of the earth,for they have abandoned the Lord, the fountain of living water.

17Lord, don’t terrorize me!You alone are my hope in the day of disaster.

3Dear friends, I had been eagerly planning to write to you about the salvation we all share. But now I find that I must write about something else, urging you to defend the faith that God has entrusted once for all time to his holy people.

11What sorrow awaits them! For they follow in the footsteps of Cain, who killed his brother. Like Balaam, they deceive people for money. And like Korah, they perish in their rebellion.

21and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.

18I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.1:18 Or called, and the rich and glorious inheritance he has given to his holy people.

20that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.

12looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along. On that day, he will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames.

13But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.

15And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved. This is what our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you with the wisdom God gave him—
