Hebrews 7:1,2,4,9,10

NMV New Messianic Version Bible

1 For this Malki-Tzedek [king of righteousness], king of Salem, priest of the most high God-The Father, who met Avraham [Exalted Father] returning from the slaughter of the kings, and Blessed (Favored by God; happy; prosperous) him;

2 To whom also Avraham [Exalted Father] gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

4 Now consider how great this man [was], unto whom even the patriarch Avraham [Exalted Father] gave the tenth of the spoils.

9 And as I may so say, Levi (Levite) [Adhesion, Joiner] also, who receives tithes, payed tithes in Avraham [Exalted Father].

10 For he was yet in the waist of his father, when Malki-Tzedek [king of righteousness] met him.

  1. KJV King James Version

    1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; 2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; 4 Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils. 9 And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham. 10 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

  2. NIV New International Version

    1 This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, 2 and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, the name Melchizedek means "king of righteousness"; then also, "king of Salem" means "king of peace."

    4 Just think how great he was: Even the patriarch Abraham gave him a tenth of the plunder! 9 One might even say that Levi, who collects the tenth, paid the tenth through Abraham, 10 because when Melchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor.

  3. ESV English Standard Version

    1 For this Gen. 14:18-20Melchizedek, king of Ps. 76:2Salem, priest of Num. 24:16;Deut. 32:8the Most High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, 2 and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace.

    4 See how great this man was to whom Abraham [Acts 2:29;7:8,9]the patriarch gave a tenth of the spoils! 9 One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, 10 for he was still in the loins of his ancestor when Melchizedek met him.

  4. NLT New Living Translation

    1 This Melchizedek was king of the city of Salem and also a priest of God Most High. When Abraham was returning home after winning a great battle against the kings, Melchizedek met him and blessed him. 2 Then Abraham took a tenth of all he had captured in battle and gave it to Melchizedek. The name Melchizedek means "king of justice," and king of Salem means "king of peace."

    4 Consider then how great this Melchizedek was. Even Abraham, the great patriarch of Israel, recognized this by giving him a tenth of what he had taken in battle.

    9 In addition, we might even say that these Levites—the ones who collect the tithe—paid a tithe to Melchizedek when their ancestor Abraham paid a tithe to him. 10 For although Levi wasn’t born yet, the seed from which he came was in Abraham’s body when Melchizedek collected the tithe from him.

  5. NKJV Nova Versão King James

    1 For this Gen. 14:18–20; Heb. 7:6Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, 2 to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all, first being translated "king of righteousness," and then also king of Salem, meaning "king of peace,"

    4 Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth of the spoils. 9 Even Levi, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, so to speak, 10 for he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him.

  6. NASB New American Standard Bible 2020

    1 For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham as he was returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, 2 to whom also Abraham apportioned a tenth of all the spoils, was first of all, by the translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace.

    4 Now observe how great this man was to whom Abraham, the patriarch, gave a tenth of the choicest spoils. 9 And, so to speak, through Abraham even Levi, who received tithes, has paid tithes, 10 for he was still in the loins of his 7:10 Lit fatherforefather when Melchizedek met him.

  7. CSB Christian Standard Bible

    1 For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of God Most High, met Abraham and blessed him as he returned from defeating the kings, 2 and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, his name means king of righteousness, then also, king of Salem, meaning king of peace.

    4 Now consider how great this man was: even Abraham the patriarch  7:4 Gn 14:20; Ac 2:29; 7:8–9 gave a tenth of the plunder to him. 9 And in a sense Levi himself, who receives a tenth, has paid a tenth through Abraham, 10 for he was still within his ancestor  7:10 Lit still in his father’s loins when Melchizedek met him.

  8. DRA Douay-Rheims American 1899

    1 For this Melchisedech was king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him: 2 To whom also Abraham divided the tithes of all: who first indeed by interpretation, is king of justice: and then also king of Salem, that is, king of peace: 4 Now consider how great this man is, to whom also Abraham the patriarch gave tithes out of the principal things. 9 And (as it may be said) even Levi who received tithes, paid tithes in Abraham: 10 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedech met him.
