1 Caros irmãos, quando estive convosco, não empreguei palavras caras nem sábias para vos transmitir o misterioso plano de Deus. 2 Decidi que falaria apenas de Jesus Cristo e da sua morte na cruz. 3 Aliás, apresentei-me consciente da minha fraqueza; eu ia cauteloso e com receio. 4 A minha pregação foi muito simples; nada de retórica nem de sabedoria humana, mas o poder do Espírito Santo atuava, provando que a mensagem era de Deus. 5 Para que a vossa fé se apoiasse no poder de Deus e não em sabedoria meramente humana.

6 É claro que entre os crentes com maturidade espiritual, exprimo-me com palavras de sabedoria divina, mas não daquelas que são características dos líderes deste mundo, e que afinal estão destinadas a desaparecer. 7 Toda a sabedoria de que falamos é um mistério oriundo de Deus; é a expressão do seu sábio plano, oculto nos tempos antigos, ainda que tivesse sido elaborado em nosso benefício, desde sempre. 8 Mas os líderes deste mundo não o compreenderam; caso contrário, não teriam crucificado o Senhor da glória. 9 É esse o sentido das Escrituras quando dizem:

"As coisas que as pessoas jamais viram, nem ouviram,

nem sequer puderam imaginar,

foram as que Deus preparou para os que o amam."*2.9 Is 64.4.

10 E nós conhecemo-las porque Deus enviou o seu Espírito para no-las revelar. O seu Espírito perscruta e revela-nos os pensamentos mais profundos de Deus. 11 Quem pode conhecer o que uma pessoa está a pensar e como é realmente no seu íntimo, senão a própria pessoa? Também ninguém pode conhecer os pensamentos de Deus, se não for pelo seu próprio Espírito. 12 Deus deu-nos o seu Espírito, e não o espírito característico deste mundo, para nos revelar as dádivas que ele graciosamente nos concede. 13 Ao dizer-vos isto não usamos palavras de sabedoria humana. Nós falamos palavras que nos são dadas pelo Espírito e assim usamos as palavras do Espírito para explicar verdades espirituais. 14 Uma pessoa que não tenha o Espírito de Deus não pode compreender as coisas que o Espírito Santo nos ensina. Parecem-lhe loucura, pois só pelo Espírito Santo se podem perceber. 15 Uma pessoa espiritual tem a perceção de todas as coisas, mas os que são deste mundo não podem entendê-las. 16 Como poderiam? Porque está escrito:

"Porque quem conheceu o pensamento do Senhor

ou quem é o seu conselheiro?"*2.16 Is 40.13.

Mas nós compreendemos estas coisas porque temos a mente de Cristo.

1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
