1 Puseram pois a arca de Deus numa tenda que David tinha preparado. Depois ofereceram holocaustos e ofertas de paz perante Deus. 2 No final destas ofertas, David abençoou o povo em nome do Senhor. 3 Seguidamente, ofereceu a cada israelita, tanto homens como mulheres, um pão, algum vinho e um bolo de tâmaras.

4 Designou certos levitas para estarem de serviço perante a arca, dando constantes louvores e graças ao Senhor, o Deus de Israel. São estes os nomes dos que foram nomeados: 5 Asafe, o chefe do grupo, que tocava os címbalos. Os seus companheiros de equipa eram Zacarias, Jeiel, Semiramote, Jeiel, Matitias, Eliabe, Benaia, Obede-Edom e Jeiel, que tocavam alaúde e harpa. 6 Os sacerdotes Benaia e Jaaziel eram responsáveis por tocar regularmente as cornetas junto da arca da aliança de Deus.

7 Foi nesse tempo que David introduziu o hábito de empregarem coros para cantarem louvores de gratidão ao Senhor. Asafe foi o diretor deste grupo coral de sacerdotes.

8 Deem graças ao Senhor e invoquem o seu nome.

Contem aos povos os seus feitos.

9 Cantem-lhe, cantem-lhe louvores

e contem todas as suas maravilhas.

10 Deem glória ao seu santo nome.

Que todos rejubilem, aqueles que buscam o Senhor.

11 Procurem o Senhor! Procurem a sua força

e a sua face continuamente!

12 Lembrem-se dos seus poderosos milagres,

dos seus maravilhosos feitos, dos juízos da sua palavra,

13 vocês os seus servos, descendentes de Israel,

os descendentes de Jacob, seus eleitos.

14 Ele é o Senhor, nosso Deus.

A sua autoridade é reconhecida em toda a Terra.

15 Lembrem-se para sempre da sua aliança,

das palavras dos seus mandamentos,

dirigidos a milhares de gerações,

16 do seu acordo feito com Abraão,

do seu juramento feito a Isaque.

17 Foi confirmado a Jacob

e prometido a Israel, como aliança eterna:

18 "Dar-te-ei a terra de Canaã por posse."

19 Ainda eram muito poucos

e simples estrangeiros na terra prometida.

20 Andavam de nação em nação,

de um reino para outro.

21 Deus nem por isso permitiu que alguém lhes fizesse mal;

os reis eram repreendidos por amor deles.

22 "Não façam mal algum ao meu povo escolhido",

ordenou-lhes Deus.

"Estes são meus profetas, não lhes toquem!"

23 Cantem ao Senhor em toda a Terra!

Declarem em cada dia que é ele quem salva!

24 Anunciem a sua salvação dia após dia!

Deem a conhecer, publicamente,

entre todos os povos da Terra,

como é excelsa a sua glória!

Contem a todas as gentes as suas maravilhas!

25 Porque o Senhor é grande e digno de todo o louvor;

é muitíssimo superior a todos os chamados deuses.

26 Esses pretensos deuses são apenas ídolos,

mas o Senhor, esse é o Criador dos céus.

27 À sua volta só há glória e majestade;

força e alegria no seu santuário.

28 Ó povos de todas a nações, louvem o Senhor;

reconheçam a sua grande força e glória!

29 Sim, deem ao Senhor a glória que é devida ao seu nome!

Tragam ofertas e venham à sua presença;

adorem o Senhor, revestido de santidade!

30 Que a Terra inteira trema na sua presença!

O mundo permanece inabalável.

31 Alegrem-se os céus, regozije-se a Terra;

que todas as nações digam: "O Senhor reina."

32 Que os vastos mares exultem,

que o campo e tudo o que ele contém se alegre!

33 Que as árvores dos bosques cantem de alegria perante o Senhor,

porque ele virá para julgar a Terra.

34 Deem graças ao Senhor, porque ele é bom,

porque o seu amor é eterno!

35 Clamem a ele: "Salva-nos, Deus da nossa salvação;

torna a trazer-nos do meio das nações,

para que possamos louvar em liberdade a força do teu nome,

e alegrarmo-nos com esse mesmo louvor!"

36 Que o Senhor, o Deus de Israel,

seja louvado por toda a eternidade!

E todo o povo gritou "Amém!", louvando o Senhor.

37 David tomou as providências necessárias para que Asafe e os levitas seus companheiros servissem regularmente perante a arca da aliança do Senhor, executando diariamente as suas funções. 38 Esse grupo incluía Obede-Edom, filho de Jedutun, Hosa e 68 dos seus colegas como guardas.

39 Entretanto, o velho tabernáculo do Senhor, na colina de Gibeão, continuou em atividade. David deixou que Zadoque, o sacerdote, e os seus colegas administrassem ali o culto ao Senhor. 40 Sacrificavam holocaustos ao Senhor todas as manhãs e todas as tardes, no altar dos holocaustos, de acordo com o mandamento do Senhor a Israel. 41 David também designou, pelos seus próprios nomes, Hemã, Jedutun e vários outros para darem louvores ao Senhor, porque o seu amor é eterno. 42 Tocavam cornetas e címbalos para acompanhar os cantores nos seus louvores a Deus. Os filhos de Jedutun foram nomeados como guardas.

43 Por fim, aquela celebração terminou e o povo regressou às suas casas. David regressou também para abençoar a sua própria casa e família.

1 So they brought the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God. 2 And when David had made an end of offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD. 3 And he dealt to every one of Israel, both man and woman, to every one a loaf of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine.

4 And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, and to record, and to thank and praise the LORD God of Israel: 5 Asaph the chief, and next to him Zechariah, Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obed-edom: and Jeiel with psalteries and with harps; but Asaph made a sound with cymbals;*16.5 with psalteries…: Heb. with instruments of psalteries and harps 6 Benaiah also and Jahaziel the priests with trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.

7 Then on that day David delivered first this psalm to thank the LORD into the hand of Asaph and his brethren. 8 Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people. 9 Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works. 10 Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. 11 Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually. 12 Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth; 13 O ye seed of Israel his servant, ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones. 14 He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth. 15 Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations; 16 Even of the covenant which he made with Abraham, and of his oath unto Isaac; 17 And hath confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant, 18 Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance;*16.18 the lot: Heb. the cord 19 When ye were but few, even a few, and strangers in it.*16.19 few, even: Heb. men of number, etc 20 And when they went from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people; 21 He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes, 22 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm. 23 Sing unto the LORD, all the earth; shew forth from day to day his salvation. 24 Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works among all nations. 25 For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods. 26 For all the gods of the people are idols: but the LORD made the heavens. 27 Glory and honour are in his presence; strength and gladness are in his place. 28 Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength. 29 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. 30 Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved. 31 Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice: and let men say among the nations, The LORD reigneth. 32 Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof: let the fields rejoice, and all that is therein. 33 Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD, because he cometh to judge the earth. 34 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever. 35 And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to thy holy name, and glory in thy praise. 36 Blessed be the LORD God of Israel for ever and ever. And all the people said, Amen, and praised the LORD.

37 So he left there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD Asaph and his brethren, to minister before the ark continually, as every day’s work required: 38 And Obed-edom with their brethren, threescore and eight; Obed-edom also the son of Jeduthun and Hosah to be porters: 39 And Zadok the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of the LORD in the high place that was at Gibeon, 40 To offer burnt offerings unto the LORD upon the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening, and to do according to all that is written in the law of the LORD, which he commanded Israel;*16.40 morning…: Heb. in the morning, and in the evening 41 And with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest that were chosen, who were expressed by name, to give thanks to the LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever; 42 And with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should make a sound, and with musical instruments of God. And the sons of Jeduthun were porters.*16.42 porters: Heb. for the gate 43 And all the people departed every man to his house: and David returned to bless his house.
