1 Entre o povo judeu também houve falsos profetas, tal como no vosso meio também haverá falsos mestres que, com habilidade, introduzirão doutrinas erradas e devastadoras, voltando-se contra o Senhor que pagou o preço da sua salvação. O seu fim será uma repentina destruição. 2 Muitos seguirão os seus ensinos corruptos e por causa deles o caminho da verdade será escarnecido. 3 Estes, na sua ganância, dirão toda a espécie de mentiras para vos ficar com o dinheiro. Mas o Senhor já há muito os condenou e a sua destruição é inevitável.

4 Porque Deus não poupou sequer os anjos que pecaram, mas lançou-os acorrentados no mundo das trevas*2.4 Literalmente, no Tártaro, um local mais profundo do que o Hades, destinado ao castigo divino., até ao dia do juízo. 5 E não poupou os que viveram nos tempos antigos antes do dilúvio, mas guardou Noé, o único a pregar a justiça, ele e mais outras sete pessoas. Nesse tempo, Deus destruiu com o dilúvio aquela gente que desprezava a Deus. 6 Mais tarde, condenou as cidades de Sodoma e Gomorra, reduzindo-as a cinzas, colocando-as como exemplo para todos os homens que vivem sem Deus. 7 Ao mesmo tempo, salvou Lot, um homem justo, que se angustiava com a terrível maldade que via e ouvia à sua volta. 8 Ele que era justo, habitando entre eles, sentia dia após dia aflição na sua alma, por causa da perversidade daquela gente.

9 Como veem o Senhor pode salvar da tentação os santos, reservando o castigo dos injustos para o dia futuro do juízo final. 10 Ele é especialmente rigoroso com aqueles que seguem desejos imundos e desprezam toda a autoridade, e com aqueles que são irreverentes e orgulhosos, atrevendo-se mesmo a difamar os poderes celestiais. 11 Contudo, nem os próprios anjos no céu, que são muito maiores em poder e força, falam injuriosamente contra esses poderes diante do Senhor.

12 Mas esses falsos mestres são como animais irracionais, nascidos só para serem apanhados e mortos, difamando aquilo que, aliás, desconhecem. Virão a ser destruídos na sua corrupção. 13 Esta é a recompensa que terão pela sua injustiça. Porque vivem à luz do dia em prazeres de luxúria. São como nódoas que causam impureza, ao viverem deleitados na sua conduta enganosa, enquanto vão frequentando os vossos encontros de fraternidade. 14 Nenhuma mulher escapa aos seus olhares pecaminosos e nunca se fartam de adultério. Sabem enganar as pessoas de carácter inconstante. São peritos na ganância; vivem sob constante maldição. 15 Desprezaram o caminho da retidão e tornaram-se como Balaão, filho de Beor, que se deixou enganar pelo amor à recompensa da injustiça. 16 Mas o profeta Balaão foi impedido de dar seguimento ao seu louco intento quando o animal que montava o repreendeu com voz humana.

17 Estes homens são tão inúteis como fontes sem água. São instáveis como nuvens levadas pela força do vento. Estão condenados à escuridão das trevas. 18 Falam com arrogância de coisas sem valor e usam a luxúria como isca para fazer voltar ao pecado aqueles que se tinham libertado de uma tal vida. 19 Prometem liberdade, enquanto eles mesmos são escravos da corrupção. Porque uma pessoa é escrava daquilo que a domina. 20 E quando alguém escapa dos caminhos de maldade deste mundo, através do conhecimento que teve de nosso Senhor e Salvador Jesus Cristo, e se deixa depois novamente envolver e vencer pelo pecado, fica pior do que antes. 21 Teria sido melhor não ter conhecido o caminho da justiça do que, conhecendo-o, desviar-se do santo mandamento que lhe foi entregue. 22 É como a velha parábola:

"O cachorro volta a farejar o que vomitou,

e a porca, depois de lavada,

volta à lama em que se espoja."*2.22 Pv 26.11.

1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. 4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; 5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; 7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: 8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) 9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: 10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. 11 Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. 12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; 13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; 14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: 15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet. 17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. 18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. 20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
