1,2 O novo rei de Judá foi Azarias. O seu pai era Amazias, o rei anterior. A sua mãe chamava-se Jecolia e era de Jerusalém. O seu reinado durou 52 anos, com sede em Jerusalém. Começou a reinar com 16 anos. Em Israel, o rei Jeroboão reinava havia já 27 anos, quando Azarias subiu ao trono. 3 Conduziu-se com retidão aos olhos do Senhor, imitando o seu pai Amazias naquilo que este tinha feito de bem.

4 Contudo, não destruiu os santuários pagãos sobre as colinas, onde o povo continuava a fazer sacrifícios e a oferecer incenso queimado. 5 Por causa disso, o Senhor castigou-o com lepra, tendo ficado assim até ao dia da sua morte. Em consequência dessa enfermidade, foi obrigado a viver isolado, numa casa à parte. O seu filho Jotão era o regente.

6 O resto dos acontecimentos da vida de Azarias está escrito no Livro das Crónicas dos Reis de Judá. 7 Quando Azarias faleceu, foi sepultado junto dos seus antepassados, na Cidade de David, e o seu filho Jotão tornou-se rei.

8 O novo rei de Israel foi Zacarias. O seu pai era Jeroboão, o rei anterior. O seu reinado durou seis meses. Em Judá, Azarias era rei havia 38 anos, quando aquele ascendeu ao trono. 9 Zacarias foi um mau rei, pois fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor, tal como muitos dos seus antecessores. À semelhança de Jeroboão I, o filho de Nebate, incentivou Israel a pecar.

10 Salum, filho de Jabes, conspirou contra ele, assassinou-o em Ibleão e reinou em seu lugar. 11 O resto da história do reinado de Zacarias encontra-se no Livro das Crónicas dos Reis de Israel. 12 Assim se concretizou a palavra do Senhor dirigida a Jeú, que o seu filho, neto e bisneto seriam reis de Israel.

13 O novo rei de Israel foi Salum. O seu pai era Jabes e o seu reinado durou um mês. Em Judá, Uzias, também chamado Azarias, era nessa altura rei havia 39 anos. 14 Um mês depois de Salum ter ascendido ao trono, Menaem, filho de Gadi, veio de Tirza a Samaria e assassinou-o, ocupando o trono em seu lugar. 15 Outros detalhes acerca de Salum e dessa conspiração estão escritos no Livro das Crónicas dos Reis de Israel.

16 Menaem destruiu a povoação de Tifsa, assim como os seus arredores, porque os seus habitantes se recusaram a aceitá-lo como rei. Por isso, matou toda a população, chegando ao ponto de desventrar mulheres grávidas.

17 O novo rei de Israel foi Menaem. O seu reinado, com sede em Samaria, durou 10 anos. Nessa altura, Azarias era rei havia 39 anos. 18 Menaem fez aquilo que era mau aos olhos do Senhor. Prestou culto a ídolos, tal como muito antes o fizera Jeroboão I que levara o povo de Israel a pecar gravemente.

19 O rei Pul da Assíria invadiu a terra. Menaem subornou-o a troco de umas 34 toneladas de prata, para que se retirasse do país. 20 Menaem teve posteriormente de extorquir esse dinheiro da mão de todos os poderosos e ricos da terra, sob a forma de uma taxa especial de 575 gramas de prata por pessoa. 21 O resto dos acontecimentos da história do rei Menaem está escrito no Livro das Crónicas dos Reis de Israel. 22 Quando morreu, o seu filho Pecaías tornou-se o novo rei.

23 O novo rei de Israel foi Pecaías. O seu pai foi o rei anterior, Menaem. O seu reinado durou 2 anos e esteve sediado em Samaria. Em Judá, Azarias reinava havia já 50 anos. 24 Pecaías fez aquilo que era mau aos olhos do Senhor e deu continuidade ao mau exemplo de Jeroboão I, filho de Nebate, que levou Israel por maus caminhos.

25 Peca, filho de Remalias, o comandante-geral do seu exército, conspirou contra ele, acompanhado de cinquenta homens de Gileade, e assassinou-o no palácio de Samaria. Argobe e Arie foram também mortos nessa revolta. Peca tornou-se o novo rei.

27 O novo rei de Israel foi Peca. O seu pai foi Remalias e o seu reinado durou 20 anos, com sede em Samaria. Em Judá, o rei Azarias reinava havia já 52 anos. 28 Peca fez aquilo que era mau aos olhos do Senhor, pois prosseguiu nos caminhos de Jeroboão I, filho de Nebate, que levou todo o Israel a pecar.

29 Foi durante o seu reinado que o rei Tiglate-Pileser atacou Israel. Capturou as povoações de Ijom, Abel-Bete-Maacá, Janoa, Quedes, Hazor, Gileade, Galileia e toda a terra de Naftali, levando os seus habitantes cativos para a Assíria. 30 Então Oseias, filho de Elá, conspirou contra Peca e assassinou-o, ocupando o trono em seu lugar. O novo rei de Israel foi Oseias. Em Judá, Jotão, filho de Uzias, era rei havia 20 anos.

32 O novo rei de Judá foi Jotão. O seu pai foi o rei Uzias. 33 Tinha 25 anos quando se sentou no trono e reinou 16 anos, tendo Jerusalém como sua capital. A sua mãe era Jerusa, filha de Zadoque. 34 Conduziu-se de forma reta aos olhos do Senhor, seguindo os passos de seu pai Uzias. 35 No entanto, não soube destruir os santuários pagãos que estavam nas colinas, onde o povo ia oferecer sacrifícios e queimava incenso. Foi durante o seu reinado que a porta alta do templo foi construída.

36 O resto dos acontecimentos da vida de Jotão encontra-se no Livro das Crónicas dos Reis de Judá. 37 Naqueles dias, o Senhor levou o rei Rezim de Aram e o rei Peca de Israel a atacar Judá. 38 Quando Jotão faleceu, foi sepultado junto dos seus antepassados na Cidade de David. O seu filho Acaz ocupou o trono.

1 In the twenty and seventh year of Jeroboam king of Israel began Azariah son of Amaziah king of Judah to reign.*15.1 Azariah: also called, Uzziah 2 Sixteen years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned two and fifty years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jecholiah of Jerusalem. 3 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah had done; 4 Save that the high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burnt incense still on the high places.

5 And the LORD smote the king, so that he was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house. And Jotham the king’s son was over the house, judging the people of the land. 6 And the rest of the acts of Azariah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 7 So Azariah slept with his fathers; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.

8 In the thirty and eighth year of Azariah king of Judah did Zachariah the son of Jeroboam reign over Israel in Samaria six months. 9 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as his fathers had done: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin. 10 And Shallum the son of Jabesh conspired against him, and smote him before the people, and slew him, and reigned in his stead. 11 And the rest of the acts of Zachariah, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel. 12 This was the word of the LORD which he spake unto Jehu, saying, Thy sons shall sit on the throne of Israel unto the fourth generation. And so it came to pass.

13 Shallum the son of Jabesh began to reign in the nine and thirtieth year of Uzziah king of Judah; and he reigned a full month in Samaria.*15.13 Uzziah: Gr. 16 Then Menahem smote Tiphsah, and all that were therein, and the coasts thereof from Tirzah: because they opened not to him, therefore he smote it; and all the women therein that were with child he ripped up. 17 In the nine and thirtieth year of Azariah king of Judah began Menahem the son of Gadi to reign over Israel, and reigned ten years in Samaria. 18 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not all his days from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin. 19 And Pul the king of Assyria came against the land: and Menahem gave Pul a thousand talents of silver, that his hand might be with him to confirm the kingdom in his hand. 20 And Menahem exacted the money of Israel, even of all the mighty men of wealth, of each man fifty shekels of silver, to give to the king of Assyria. 23 In the fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah Pekahiah the son of Menahem began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned two years. 24 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin. 25 But Pekah the son of Remaliah, a captain of his, conspired against him, and smote him in Samaria, in the palace of the king’s house, with Argob and Arieh, and with him fifty men of the Gileadites: and he killed him, and reigned in his room. 26 And the rest of the acts of Pekahiah, and all that he did, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

27 In the two and fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah Pekah the son of Remaliah began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned twenty years. 28 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin. 29 In the days of Pekah king of Israel came Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and took Ijon, and Abel-beth-maachah, and Janoah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali, and carried them captive to Assyria. 30 And Hoshea the son of Elah made a conspiracy against Pekah the son of Remaliah, and smote him, and slew him, and reigned in his stead, in the twentieth year of Jotham the son of Uzziah. 31 And the rest of the acts of Pekah, and all that he did, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

32 In the second year of Pekah the son of Remaliah king of Israel began Jotham the son of Uzziah king of Judah to reign. 33 Five and twenty years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jerusha, the daughter of Zadok. 34 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD: he did according to all that his father Uzziah had done.

35 Howbeit the high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burned incense still in the high places. He built the higher gate of the house of the LORD.

36 Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 37 In those days the LORD began to send against Judah Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah. 38 And Jotham slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Ahaz his son reigned in his stead.
