1 Depois disto, David venceu e submeteu os filisteus, tirando das mãos deles Metegue-Amá, a sua maior cidade.

2 Também conquistou Moabe. Dividiu as suas vítimas, fazendo-as deitarem-se lado a lado, em fileiras. Depois de medir com uma fita, dois terços de cada fila eram condenados a morrer; o terço restante era poupado, para serem servos de David; pagaram-lhe um tributo anualmente, daí em diante.

3 Conquistou o domínio do rei Hadadezer, filho de Reobe, rei de Zobá, numa batalha junto ao rio Eufrates, porque Hadadezer tinha tentado retomar o poder. 4 David capturou 1700 cavaleiros e 20 000 soldados. Inutilizou os cavalos dos seus carros de combate, à exceção de uma centena que guardou para seu próprio uso.

5 Quando os arameus vieram de Damasco para socorrer Hadadezer, David matou 22 000 deles. 6 David pôs várias guarnições militares em Damasco, e os arameus tornaram-se seus súbditos, pagando-lhe um tributo anual. O Senhor concedia-lhe sempre vitórias, para onde quer que se virasse. 7 Trouxe também para Jerusalém os escudos de ouro que os oficiais do rei Hadadezer usavam, 8 assim como uma grande quantidade de bronze de Beta e de Berotai, cidades do rei Hadadezer.

9 Quando o rei Toú de Hamate ouviu narrar todas as vitórias de David sobre o exército de Hadadezer, 10 enviou o seu filho Jorão para felicitá-lo, visto que Hadadezer e Toú eram inimigos. Jorão trouxe-lhe presentes de prata, ouro e bronze. 11,12 David consagrou tudo isso ao Senhor, assim como os despojos de prata e ouro que trouxera dos combates contra Aram, Moabe, Amon, os filisteus, Amaleque e o rei Hadadezer, filho de Reobe, rei de Zobá.

13 David tornou-se muito famoso. Depois disso, ainda destruiu 18 000 edomitas*8.13 Alguns manuscritos, além da Septuaginta, têm edomitas (cf 1 Cr 18.12); mas a maior parte dos manuscritos hebreus têm arameus. no vale do Sal. 14 Colocou também guarnições militares através da terra de Edom, de forma que toda essa nação foi obrigada a pagar tributo a Israel. O Senhor tornou-o vitorioso para onde quer que se dirigisse.

15 David reinou com justiça sobre Israel, dirigindo as causas do seu povo com toda a equidade. 16 Joabe, filho de Zeruía, era o general do seu exército. O seu secretário para os assuntos da governação era Jeosafá, filho de Ailude. 17 Zadoque, filho de Aitube, e Aimeleque, filho de Abiatar, eram os sacerdotes; Seraías era o secretário particular do rei. 18 Benaia, filho de Jeoiada, era o chefe da guarda pessoal do rei, formada por cretenses e peleteus. Os filhos do rei eram seus assistentes.

3 David smote also Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his border at the river Euphrates.*8.3 Hadadezer: or, Hadarezer 4 And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: and David houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for an hundred chariots.*8.4 from…: or, of his chariots 5 And when the Syrians of Damascus came to succour Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men. 6 Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought gifts. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went. 7 And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem. 8 And from Betah, and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, king David took exceeding much brass.

9 When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadadezer, 10 Then Toi sent Joram his son unto king David, to salute him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer, and smitten him: for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. 14 And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all they of Edom became David’s servants. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

15 And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed judgment and justice unto all his people. 16 And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;*8.16 recorder: or, remembrancer, or, writer of chronicles 17 And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Seraiah was the scribe;*8.17 scribe: or, secretary 18 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over both the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were chief rulers.*8.18 chief rulers: or, princes
