58 O total dos auxiliares do templo mais os descendentes dos servidores de Salomão era de 392.
59 Houve igualmente um grupo de pessoas que regressou a Jerusalém, na mesma altura, vindo das cidades persas de Tel-Mela, Tel-Harsa, Querube, Adã e Imer. Contudo, perderam as suas genealogias e não puderam provar que eram israelitas.
60 Estas pessoas incluíam descendentes dos subclãs de Delaías, Tobias e Necoda, num total de 652.
61 Houve três subclãs de sacerdotes:
Hobaías, Coz e Barzilai. Este último casou com uma das filhas de Barzilai, o gileadita, e ficou como o nome da família dela.
62 Estes regressaram igualmente a Jerusalém, mas também perderam as suas genealogias. Por isso, os responsáveis recusaram permitir que continuassem como sacerdotes; 63 nem sequer os deixaram comer do alimento dos sacríficios, até que fossem consultados o urim e tumim2.63 Urim e tumim eram objectos utilizados para se conhecer a vontade de Deus, por tiragem à sorte. Cf. Êx 28.30; Lv 8.8; Nm 27.21; Dt 33.8; 1 Sm 14.41; 28.6; Ne 7.65., para se saber, da parte de Deus, se eram realmente descendentes de sacerdotes.
64 O total de todos os que regressaram a Judá foi de 42 360 pessoas. 65 Deve juntar-se a este número 7337 escravos e 200 cantores e cantoras. 66 Trouxeram consigo 736 cavalos, 245 mulas, 67 435 camelos e 6720 burros.
68 Alguns dos líderes deram generosamente ofertas para a reconstrução do templo, cada um tanto quanto pôde. 69 O valor da totalidade das dádivas ascendeu a 500 quilos de ouro, 2800 quilos de prata e 100 vestes sacerdotais.
70 Os sacerdotes, os levitas e algumas pessoas do povo comum, estabeleceram-se em Jerusalém e nas povoações ao redor. Os cantores, os porteiros, os funcionários auxiliares do templo e o resto do povo, voltaram às outras localidades de Judá de onde eram originários.

68 And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the LORD which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place: 69 They gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work threescore and one thousand drams of gold, and five thousand pound of silver, and one hundred priests’ garments. 70 So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.
