1 Recebi esta mensagem da parte do Senhor: 2 "Homem mortal, profetiza contra os falsos profetas de Israel que andam a inventar as suas próprias visões, clamando que têm mensagens minhas. Ouçam a palavra do Senhor. 3 Ai dos profetas insensatos que proclamam mensagens inventadas e fabricam as suas próprias visões! 4 Ó Israel, estes vossos falsos profetas valem tanto como raposas para vos ajudarem a construir uma muralha! 5 Ó infelizes profetas, que fizeram vocês para fortalecer os muros de Israel contra os seus inimigos, fortalecendo Israel no dia do Senhor? 6 Ao invés, mentem quando se põem a dizer: ‘A minha mensagem é de Deus!’ Deus não vos enviou e ainda têm o descaramento de esperar que ele cumpra as profecias que inventam. 7 Não neguem que têm dito que receberam visões que afinal nunca viram e que têm dito: ‘Esta mensagem vem de Deus!’, quando a verdade é que nunca vos dirigi a minha palavra!

8 Por isso, diz o Senhor Deus: Destruir-vos-ei por causa dessas falsas visões e mentiras. 9 A minha mão virar-se-á contra vocês e serão expulsos da convivência dos líderes de Israel. Os vossos nomes serão apagados dos registos e nunca mais tornarão a ver a terra. Saberão assim que eu sou o Senhor Deus.

10 Porque estes homens perversos enganam o meu povo, dizendo: ‘Deus mandará paz, enfim!’ Quando não é nada disso que está nos meus planos! É como se o meu povo estivesse a levantar um muro de lama seca e todos esses profetas se pusessem a elogiá-lo, rebocando-o com cal! 11 Diz a esses maus construtores que o muro deles não poderá aguentar; uma forte pancada de chuva deitará tudo ao chão; uma grande saraivada e ventos tempestuosos deitarão tudo abaixo. 12 E quando esses muros se desfizerem, o povo gritará e chorará: ‘Porque é que não nos avisaram que esta matéria não era boa? Porque é que ainda se puseram a rebocar tudo e a cobrir a nossa falha? Sim, podem ter a certeza que o muro cairá!’

13 O Senhor Deus diz: Fá-lo-ei derrocar com uma tempestade de indignação, com um enorme dilúvio de ira, com saraivadas de cólera. 14 Derrubarei a vossa parede caiada e será sobre vocês mesmos que ela cairá, esmagando-vos. E saberão que eu sou o Senhor. 15 Então a minha cólera contra essa espécie de muralha será satisfeita. Quanto àqueles que a louvavam, direi: Muro e construtores, tudo se foi! 16 Porque eram profetas mentirosos, clamando que Jerusalém terá paz, quando não há paz alguma, diz o Senhor Deus!

17 Homem mortal, fala também contra as mulheres do teu povo, que se dizem profetisas. Denuncia-as 18 e diz-lhes que o Senhor Deus lhes comunica o seguinte: Ai dessas mulheres que andam a destruir a alma do meu povo, tanto de velhos como de novos, atando-lhes adornos enfeitiçadores nos braços, fornecendo-lhes véus mágicos e vendendo-lhes indulgências! Até os auxílios que fornecem têm sempre em vista algum benefício pessoal! 19 Por um punhado de cevada ou um bocado de pão irão afastar de mim o meu povo? Conduziram à morte aqueles que não estavam destinados a morrer! Por outro lado, prometeram a vida aos que não estavam destinados a viver, mentido ao meu povo que tão facilmente escuta a mentira!

20 Portanto, assim diz o Senhor Deus: Esmagar-vos-ei, porque andam a ludibriar a alma do meu povo com vossas feitiçarias. Destruirei esses encantamentos e libertarei o meu povo como se fossem pássaros saindo duma gaiola. 21 Rasgarei os véus mágicos e libertarei o meu povo da vossa influência; não mais serão vossas vítimas e saberão que eu sou o Senhor. 22 As vossas mentiras desencorajaram os retos e eu não queria que isso acontecesse; por outro lado, encorajaram os ímpios, prometendo-lhes vida, ainda que continuem no seu pecado. 23 Vocês não hão de mentir mais; não dirão mais ter tido visões que não tiveram, nem praticarão bruxarias, pois livrarei o meu povo das vossas mãos, destruindo-vos, e vocês saberão que eu sou o Senhor!"

1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say thou unto them that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD;*13.2 that prophesy out…: Heb. that are prophets out of their own hearts 3 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!*13.3 follow: Heb. walk after*13.3 and…: or, and things which they have not seen 4 O Israel, thy prophets are like the foxes in the deserts. 5 Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD.*13.5 gaps: or, breaches*13.5 made…: Heb. hedged the hedge 6 They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word. 7 Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The LORD saith it; albeit I have not spoken? 8 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord GOD. 9 And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.*13.9 assembly: or, secret, or, counsel

10 Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter:*13.10 a wall: or, a slight wall 11 Say unto them which daub it with untempered morter, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall rend it. 12 Lo, when the wall is fallen, shall it not be said unto you, Where is the daubing wherewith ye have daubed it? 13 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even rend it with a stormy wind in my fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger, and great hailstones in my fury to consume it. 14 So will I break down the wall that ye have daubed with untempered morter, and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation thereof shall be discovered, and it shall fall, and ye shall be consumed in the midst thereof: and ye shall know that I am the LORD. 15 Thus will I accomplish my wrath upon the wall, and upon them that have daubed it with untempered morter, and will say unto you, The wall is no more, neither they that daubed it; 16 To wit, the prophets of Israel which prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and which see visions of peace for her, and there is no peace, saith the Lord GOD.

17 Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, which prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy thou against them, 18 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the women that sew pillows to all armholes, and make kerchiefs upon the head of every stature to hunt souls! Will ye hunt the souls of my people, and will ye save the souls alive that come unto you?*13.18 armholes: or, elbows 19 And will ye pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies? 20 Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against your pillows, wherewith ye there hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that ye hunt to make them fly.*13.20 to make…: or, into gardens 21 Your kerchiefs also will I tear, and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand to be hunted; and ye shall know that I am the LORD. 22 Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:*13.22 by…: or, that I should save his life: Heb. by quickening him 23 Therefore ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine divinations: for I will deliver my people out of your hand: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
