1 Veio até mim outra mensagem do Senhor. 2 "Homem mortal, podes aplicar a Jerusalém o nome de cidade sanguinária; denuncia publicamente as suas abominações. 3 Mostra à cidade que o Senhor Deus diz: És cidade de assassínios, condenada e amaldiçoada, porque mataste tanta gente do teu povo e te contaminaste na adoração de ídolos. Chega agora o dia da tua condenação. 4 És culpada dessas mortes e estás contaminada pelos ídolos que fizeste. Atingiste o limite da tolerância e fizeste aproximar-se o dia do teu julgamento; o teu fim está para breve; por isso permiti que sejas objeto de riso e de censura da parte de toda a gente do mundo. 5 De perto e de longe, as nações se rirão de ti, ó cidade de confusão e discórdia!

6 Cada chefe de Israel que vive dentro das tuas muralhas usa o seu poder e autoridade para cometer assassínios. 7 Pais e mães são desdenhosamente desprezados; estrangeiros e visitantes são obrigados a pagar pela proteção que vocês lhes dão; órfãos e viúvas são explorados. 8 Profanam-se as coisas sagradas; os meus sábados são disso um exemplo. 9 Há gente denunciada falsamente e, nessa única base, condenada à morte. Cada cimo de montanha está coberto de ídolos. Só se vê lascívia por toda a parte. 10 Há homens cometendo adultério com a mulher do seu próprio pai e que se deitam com mulheres durante o período da menstruação. 11 O adultério com a mulher do próximo, com a nora, com a irmã de leite, isso então é coisa comum. 12 Há por toda a parte gente que é paga para matar, gente que extorque e vigariza seja quem for, para obter dinheiro. Mas em mim, e nos meus mandamentos, ninguém pensa, diz o Senhor Deus.

13 Chegou a altura de levantar a mão e impor uma paragem à vossa desonestidade e aos vossos crimes. 14 Agora se verá verdadeiramente a coragem e a afoiteza que têm, quando for o dia de prestar contas. Eu, o Senhor, falei e cumprirei tudo quanto prometi. 15 Espalhar-vos-ei por toda a parte; colocarei um ponto final às vossas práticas indecentes. 16 Hão de ser desprezados no meio das outras nações e, então, saberão que eu sou o Senhor."

17 A palavra do Senhor tornou a mim nos seguintes termos: 18 "Homem mortal, o povo de Israel é como a escória, sem valor nenhum, que fica no fundo do forno quando se derrete a prata. São como uma liga, que não presta para nada, feita de estanho, bronze, ferro e chumbo. 19 Contudo, o Senhor Deus diz: Visto que são como uma escória que não vale nada, irei trazer-vos para o meio de Jerusalém. 20 Pois da mesma maneira que a prata, o cobre, o ferro, o chumbo e o estanho se amontoam num forno, para serem purificados, com o calor ardente da minha ira os farei derreter como o fogo derrete o metal. 21 Sim, eu mesmo vos reunirei e soprarei sobre vocês o fogo da minha ira, e derreter-se-ão no meio de Jerusalém. 22 Como prata num forno ardente, assim serão derretidos dentro da vossa cidade; então dar-se-ão conta de que eu, o Senhor, derramei a minha ira sobre vocês."

23 A palavra do Senhor veio novamente a mim, dizendo: 24 "Homem mortal, diz ao povo de Israel: No dia da minha indignação vocês serão como uma terra desértica e selvagem, ou como um deserto que nunca sabe o que é chuva. 25 Os seus profetas conspiram contra o povo como leões preparando o salto sobre a presa. Devoram almas, apoderam-se de fortunas, extorquem tudo que é bom. Multiplicam as viúvas na terra. 26 Os sacerdotes violam a minha Lei, profanam as minhas coisas santas; não fazem diferença entre o que é santo e o que é profano. As coisas de Deus não passam, para eles, de vulgares tarefas diárias. Não sabem discernir entre o que é cerimonialmente limpo e o que não é. Desprezam os meus sábados. 27 E dessa forma o meu santo nome é profanado no meio deles. Os seus líderes são como lobos que arrebatam as vítimas; são capazes de destruir vidas só para conseguirem determinados lucros. 28 Os seus pretensos profetas descrevem visões que nunca tiveram e pregam falsas mensagens que afirmam ter recebido do Senhor Deus, quando o Senhor, afinal, nunca lhes comunicou uma só palavra que fosse. 29 É como se se pusessem a reparar um muro que está a cair, caiando-o! Oprimem mesmo os pobres e roubam os necessitados; exploram cruelmente os estrangeiros.

30 Em vão procurei alguém que estivesse a tapar e a reconstruir o muro da justiça, que proteja a terra, que estivesse nas brechas, prevenindo-os das minhas justas intenções de os destruir, mas não encontrei ninguém! 31 Por isso, diz o Senhor Deus: Derramarei a minha ira sobre eles; consumi-los-ei com o fogo da minha ira. Sobre eles recai o castigo completo de todos os seus pecados."

1 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Now, thou son of man, wilt thou judge, wilt thou judge the bloody city? yea, thou shalt shew her all her abominations.*22.2 judge: or, plead for*22.2 bloody…: Heb. city of bloods?*22.2 shew her: Heb. make her know 3 Then say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD, The city sheddeth blood in the midst of it, that her time may come, and maketh idols against herself to defile herself. 4 Thou art become guilty in thy blood that thou hast shed; and hast defiled thyself in thine idols which thou hast made; and thou hast caused thy days to draw near, and art come even unto thy years: therefore have I made thee a reproach unto the heathen, and a mocking to all countries. 5 Those that be near, and those that be far from thee, shall mock thee, which art infamous and much vexed.*22.5 infamous…: Heb. polluted of name, much in vexation 6 Behold, the princes of Israel, every one were in thee to their power to shed blood.*22.6 power: Heb. arm 7 In thee have they set light by father and mother: in the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with the stranger: in thee have they vexed the fatherless and the widow.*22.7 oppression: or, deceit 8 Thou hast despised mine holy things, and hast profaned my sabbaths. 9 In thee are men that carry tales to shed blood: and in thee they eat upon the mountains: in the midst of thee they commit lewdness.*22.9 that…: Heb. of slanders 10 In thee have they discovered their fathers’ nakedness: in thee have they humbled her that was set apart for pollution. 11 And one hath committed abomination with his neighbour’s wife; and another hath lewdly defiled his daughter in law; and another in thee hath humbled his sister, his father’s daughter.*22.11 one: or, every one*22.11 another: or, every one*22.11 lewdly: or, by lewdness 12 In thee have they taken gifts to shed blood; thou hast taken usury and increase, and thou hast greedily gained of thy neighbours by extortion, and hast forgotten me, saith the Lord GOD.

13 Behold, therefore I have smitten mine hand at thy dishonest gain which thou hast made, and at thy blood which hath been in the midst of thee. 14 Can thine heart endure, or can thine hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with thee? I the LORD have spoken it, and will do it. 15 And I will scatter thee among the heathen, and disperse thee in the countries, and will consume thy filthiness out of thee. 16 And thou shalt take thine inheritance in thyself in the sight of the heathen, and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.*22.16 shalt take…: or, shalt be profaned

17 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 18 Son of man, the house of Israel is to me become dross: all they are brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are even the dross of silver.*22.18 dross of silver: Heb. drosses, etc 19 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye are all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. 20 As they gather silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, into the midst of the furnace, to blow the fire upon it, to melt it; so will I gather you in mine anger and in my fury, and I will leave you there, and melt you.*22.20 As…: Heb. According to the gathering 21 Yea, I will gather you, and blow upon you in the fire of my wrath, and ye shall be melted in the midst thereof. 22 As silver is melted in the midst of the furnace, so shall ye be melted in the midst thereof; and ye shall know that I the LORD have poured out my fury upon you.

23 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 24 Son of man, say unto her, Thou art the land that is not cleansed, nor rained upon in the day of indignation. 25 There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst thereof. 26 Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.*22.26 violated: Heb. offered violence to 27 Her princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain. 28 And her prophets have daubed them with untempered morter, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord GOD, when the LORD hath not spoken. 29 The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.*22.29 oppression: or, deceit*22.29 wrongfully: Heb. without right 30 And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. 31 Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD.
