1 Paulo, prisioneiro por pregar o evangelho de Jesus Cristo, e o irmão Timóteo dirigimos esta carta a Filémon, nosso muito querido colaborador no serviço de Deus, 2 assim como a Ápia, nossa irmã na fé, e a Arquipo, nosso companheiro na luta, assim como à igreja que se reúne em sua casa.

3 Que Deus, nosso Pai, e o Senhor Jesus Cristo vos deem graça e paz.

4 Continuo sempre a dar a Deus o meu agradecimento e a orar por ti, 5 porque ouço falar da fé que tens no Senhor Jesus Cristo e do teu amor para com ele e para com todo o povo de Deus. 6 O meu pedido a Deus é que a tua fé seja comunicada aos outros, para que possas ter um conhecimento pleno de todo o bem que temos em Cristo. 7 Tive muita alegria e fui muito consolado em saber que o teu amor cristão é posto em prática e como, por teu intermédio, meu irmão, o coração de muitos crentes tem sido alegrado.

8 Por isso, sinto-me levado a pedir-te um favor, ainda que, estando ao serviço de Cristo, teria autoridade para te ordenar aquilo que é mais conveniente. 9 Mas prefiro falar-te nisso como um pedido, por causa dos laços de verdadeira afeição cristã que nos unem. Lembra-te que sou o velho Paulo, que agora está preso por ser um embaixador de Jesus Cristo. 10 Queria pedir-te pelo meu filho espiritual, Onésimo, a quem levei a nascer de novo na minha prisão. 11 É verdade que noutro tempo a sua vida te foi inútil. Mas agora vai tornar-se, tanto para ti como para mim, muito útil. 12 Por isso, o envio de volta, pedindo-te que o recebas como se fosse eu mesmo em pessoa.

13 Aliás, bem gostaria de o conservar comigo, para que me ajudasse, em teu lugar, enquanto me encontro preso por causa do evangelho. 14 Mas não quis tomar essa decisão sem o teu parecer. Se realmente quiseres fazer-me esse benefício, que não seja como que forçado a isso, mas voluntariamente. 15 Também pode ser que, apesar de ter estado fugido durante algum tempo, agora o recuperes definitivamente. 16 Não já como escravo, mas muito mais como um irmão na fé em Deus, que me é especialmente querido, mas a quem tu ainda mais te afeiçoarás, visto que tornará a ficar ligado à tua casa como trabalhador e como irmão no Senhor.

17 Assim pois, se me consideras teu companheiro, recebe-o como se fosse eu mesmo. 18 E se te causou algum prejuízo ou te deve alguma coisa, põe isso na minha conta. 19 Eu, Paulo, o escrevo pela minha mão: eu o pagarei. Mas olha que no fundo tu mesmo me deves aquilo que és espiritualmente.

20 Sim, irmão, o teu gesto dar-me-á muita alegria e ficarei muito animado por aquilo que o Senhor te inspirar. 21 Ao escrever-te, estou convencido de que farás o que te digo e até mesmo mais.

22 Queria ao mesmo tempo pedir-te que me preparasses alojamento, porque espero, em resposta às vossas orações, poder visitar-vos.

23 Daqui mandam-te cumprimentos Epafras, que também está preso comigo, por causa de Cristo Jesus, 24 e ainda Marcos, Aristarco, Demas e Lucas, todos meus colaboradores.

25 Peço a nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo que a sua graça esteja com o vosso espírito.

1 Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer, 2 And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house: 3 Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

4 I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers, 5 Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints; 6 That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. 7 For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother. 8 Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient, 9 Yet for love’s sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ. 10 I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds: 11 Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me: 12 Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels: 13 Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel: 14 But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly. 15 For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever; 16 Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord? 17 If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself. 18 If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account; 19 I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides. 20 Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.

21 Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say. 22 But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.

23 There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus; 24 Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers. 25 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
