1 O Senhor deu a Moisés 2 mais as seguintes instruções para que as transmitisse a Aarão, aos sacerdotes e a todo o povo de Israel: 3 "Qualquer israelita que sacrificar um boi, um cordeiro ou uma cabra noutro sítio 4 que não seja no acampamento, à entrada da tenda do encontro, para o oferecer ao Senhor, tal homem será culpado, porque fez derramar sangue; terá de ser expulso da sua nação. 5 O fim desta lei é impedir que os israelitas façam sacrifícios nos campos e levá-los a trazerem-nos antes ao sacerdote, à entrada da tenda do encontro, e a oferecerem-nos como ofertas de paz ao Senhor. 6 Porque desta maneira o sacerdote poderá aspergir o sangue sobre o altar do Senhor, à entrada da tenda do encontro, e queimar a gordura como um cheiro que o Senhor muito apreciará. 7 E dessa forma não sacrificarão mais aos bodes,*17.7 O povo sacrificava a bodes (no hebraico, seirim) que vagueavam pelo deserto e faziam parte do panteão egípcio. A razão para a censura divina é que o povo, na sua caminhada pelo deserto, oferecia sacrifícios a bodes associados a demónios. prestando-lhes um culto de zombaria. Isto será uma lei perpétua para vocês, por todas as gerações.

8 Repito: Alguém, seja israelita ou estrangeiro que viva no vosso meio, que ofereça um holocausto ou um sacrifício, 9 noutro sítio que não seja à entrada da tenda do encontro, onde deve ser sacrificado ao Senhor, será excomungado.

10 Também me levantarei contra alguém, seja israelita, seja um estrangeiro que viva entre vocês, que coma sangue, seja de que forma for. Expulsá-lo-ei do meu povo. 11 Porque a vida da carne está no sangue. Dei-vos o sangue para que seja aspergido sobre o altar como expiação pelas vossas almas. É pelo sangue que se faz a expiação, porque o sangue é a vida. 12 Portanto, este é o meu decreto para o povo de Israel: que nem eles nem nenhum estrangeiro que viva entre eles coma sangue.

13 Seja quem for, israelita ou estrangeiro entre eles, que vá à caça e mate um animal ou uma ave dos que é permitido comerem, deverá derramar o seu sangue e cobri-lo com terra; 14 porque o sangue é a vida. É por isso que digo ao povo de Israel para nunca o comer, porque a vida de toda a ave, de todo o animal, está no seu sangue. Portanto, alguém que come sangue deverá ser expulso da comunidade de Israel.

15 E também alguém, nascido na terra ou estrangeiro, que coma o corpo morto dum animal que tenha morrido por si mesmo, ou que tenha sido despedaçado por outro animal, deverá lavar a sua roupa e banhar-se, permanecendo impuro até ao cair da noite. Depois disso, será declarado limpo. 16 Se tal não fizer, terá de sofrer as consequências."

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Speak unto Aaron, and unto his sons, and unto all the children of Israel, and say unto them; This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, saying, 3 What man soever there be of the house of Israel, that killeth an ox, or lamb, or goat, in the camp, or that killeth it out of the camp, 4 And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer an offering unto the LORD before the tabernacle of the LORD; blood shall be imputed unto that man; he hath shed blood; and that man shall be cut off from among his people: 5 To the end that the children of Israel may bring their sacrifices, which they offer in the open field, even that they may bring them unto the LORD, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest, and offer them for peace offerings unto the LORD. 6 And the priest shall sprinkle the blood upon the altar of the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and burn the fat for a sweet savour unto the LORD. 7 And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they have gone a whoring. This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations.

8 And thou shalt say unto them, Whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers which sojourn among you, that offereth a burnt offering or sacrifice, 9 And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer it unto the LORD; even that man shall be cut off from among his people.

10 And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people. 11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. 12 Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood. 13 And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust.*17.13 which…: Heb. that hunteth any hunting 14 For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off. 15 And every soul that eateth that which died of itself, or that which was torn with beasts, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger, he shall both wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even: then shall he be clean.*17.15 that which died…: Heb. a carcase 16 But if he wash them not, nor bathe his flesh; then he shall bear his iniquity.
