1 Jesus foi de novo à sinagoga e aí reparou num homem que tinha uma mão aleijada. 2 E vigiavam atentamente Jesus, para ver se ele curaria o homem no dia de sábado, para terem de que o acusar. 3 Jesus pediu ao homem com a mão paralisada: "Levanta-te e vem aqui ao meio." 4 Então, voltando-se para os que o observavam, perguntou: "É legítimo praticar o bem num sábado ou praticar o mal? É dia para salvar vidas ou para destruí-las?" Mas eles não foram capazes de lhe responder.

5 Olhando indignado em volta, e profundamente triste, por causa dos seus corações endurecidos, Jesus disse ao homem: "Estende o braço!" Ele assim fez e imediatamente a sua mão ficou completamente normal.

6 Os fariseus saíram e tiveram um encontro com os herodianos, a fim de combinarem como haveriam de o matar.

7 Entretanto, Jesus e os discípulos foram para a beira-mar e uma enorme massa de gente o seguia, vinda da Galileia, da Judeia, 8 de Jerusalém, da Idumeia, de além do rio Jordão e até do outro lado de Tiro e Sídon. Ao ouvirem falar do que ele fizera, muita gente acorreu para o ver.

9 Jesus disse aos discípulos que tivessem um bote pronto para o recolher se a multidão na praia o apertasse. 10 Com efeito, tinha realizado muitas curas, de modo que todos os que tinham males o comprimiam, procurando tocar-lhe.

11 E onde quer que os possuídos de espíritos impuros o vissem, caíam à sua frente, clamando: "És o Filho de Deus!" 12 Contudo, advertia-os expressamente que não revelassem quem ele era.

13 Jesus subiu a uma montanha, reuniu aqueles que entendeu e estes foram juntar-se a ele.

14 Nomeou então doze, a quem designou apóstolos, para o acompanharem, enviá-los a pregar 15 e a expulsar demónios.

16 Assim se chamavam os doze que escolheu: Simão (a quem pôs o nome de Pedro); 17 Tiago e João, filhos de Zebedeu, a quem Jesus chamou filhos do Trovão; 18 André; Filipe; Bartolomeu; Mateus; Tomé; Tiago, filho de Alfeu; Tadeu; Simão, o zelote; 19 e Judas Iscariotes que viria a traí-lo.

20 Quando Jesus voltou para a casa, o povo começou a juntar-se outra vez. E não tardou que ficasse tão cheia que nem Jesus, nem os discípulos, tinham tempo para comer. 21 Quando os seus familiares souberam o que estava a acontecer tentaram levá-lo dali e diziam: "Está fora de si!"

22 Porém, os especialistas na Lei que tinham chegado de Jerusalém diziam: "Ele está mas é dominado por Belzebu*3.22 Belzebu, nome habitualmente designativo de Satanás, príncipe dos demónios. Na origem, era uma expressão honorífica para designar Baal, a divindade suprema cananeia (Baal-Zebul), e que significaria Baal ou Senhor Príncipe. Os Hebreus alteraram o nome, por meio de um jogo paronímico, para Beel-Zebub(Senhor das Moscas), uma referência sarcástica aos deuses de outros povos.; por isso expulsa os demónios pelo líder dos demónios."

23 Jesus chamou então estes homens e perguntou-lhes por meio de uma parábola: "Como pode Satanás expulsar Satanás? 24 Se um reino está dividido contra si mesmo não pode subsistir. 25 E se uma está dividida contra si mesma também não poderá subsistir. 26 Ora, se Satanás luta contra si próprio e está dividido, não pode subsistir; antes é o seu fim. 27 Ninguém pode entrar na casa do homem forte e levar os seus bens, sem antes amarrá-lo. Só então poderá roubar-lhe a casa.

28 É realmente como vos digo: qualquer pecado dos homens pode ser perdoado, incluindo a blasfémia. 29 Mas a ofensa contra o Espírito Santo, essa não pode nunca ser perdoada. É um pecado que fica para sempre." 30 Disse-lhes isto porque afirmavam que os seus milagres eram feitos por um espírito impuro.

31 Entretanto, sua mãe e irmãos apareceram do lado de fora da casa onde ele estava e mandaram chamá-lo. 32 Havia uma multidão sentada à volta dele. E disseram-lhe: "A tua mãe, irmãos e irmãs estão lá fora à tua procura!"

33 Jesus respondeu: "Quem é a minha mãe e quem são os meus irmãos?" 34 E, olhando para os que o rodeavam, acrescentou: "Estes é que são a minha mãe e os meus irmãos! 35 Todo aquele que faz a vontade de Deus é meu irmão, minha irmã e minha mãe."

1 And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand. 2 And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him. 3 And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth. 4 And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace. 5 And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other. 6 And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him. 7 But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judæa, 8 And from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did, came unto him. 9 And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him. 10 For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues. 11 And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God. 12 And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known. 13 And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him. 14 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, 15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils: 16 And Simon he surnamed Peter; 17 And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder: 18 And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite, 19 And Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him: and they went into an house. 20 And the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. 21 And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.

22 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils. 23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? 24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. 27 No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house. 28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: 29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: 30 Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.

31 There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him. 32 And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. 33 And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren? 34 And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
