1 Disse eu: "Escutem, chefes de Israel! Pressupõe-se que sabem discernir o bem do mal. 2 O certo é que são justamente quem mais odeia o bem e ama o mal; são vocês que exploram o meu povo, a ponto de ficar apenas pele e osso! 3 Espancam-no, tiram-lhe a pele, partem-lhe os ossos, desfazem-no em pedaços, como carne dentro dum caldeirão e devoram-no!"

4 Depois disso tudo, ainda ousam implorar ao Senhor que vos ajude em tempos de adversidade. Acham mesmo que Deus vos responderá? Com toda a certeza que antes virará a cara para o outro lado.

5 O Senhor diz acerca dos maus profetas: "Vocês são falsos profetas! Fizeram desviar o meu povo do caminho justo! Gritam paz para aqueles que vos sustentam e ameaçam os que não vos pagam! 6 Esta é a mensagem que vos dou: virá a noite sobre vocês, a qual porá um termo a todas as vossas visões; a escuridão vos cobrirá. 7 Não perceberão mais uma só palavra do Senhor. O Sol pôr-se-á nas vossas vidas; será o fim do vosso dia. Por fim, hão de cobrir a cara de vergonha e admitirão que nunca transmitiram mensagem alguma vinda de Deus."

8 Quanto a mim, estou cheio do poder do Espírito do Senhor, cheio de ânimo para anunciar a justiça de Deus sobre a rebeldia de Jacob e os pecados de Israel. 9 Ouçam-me, líderes de Israel, vocês que odeiam a justiça e pervertem tudo o que é justo, 10 vocês que enchem Sião com assassínios e Jerusalém com toda a espécie de pecados, 11 vocês, chefes, que são os primeiros a deixarem-se comprar por suborno, vocês, sacerdotes e profetas, que recusam pregar e profetizar enquanto não forem pagos. E contudo pavoneiam-se perante o Senhor, dizendo: "Está tudo bem! O Senhor está no nosso meio!" 12 É precisamente por vossa causa que Sião será lavrada por completo, como se fosse um campo aberto, e a cidade de Jerusalém será arrasada e feita num monte de entulho. Uma floresta crescerá no mesmo sítio onde agora se levanta o templo.

1 And I said, Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and ye princes of the house of Israel; Is it not for you to know judgment? 2 Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones; 3 Who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron. 4 Then shall they cry unto the LORD, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.

5 Thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that make my people err, that bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and he that putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him. 6 Therefore night shall be unto you, that ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them.*3.6 that…: vision: Heb. from a vision*3.6 that…: divine: Heb. from divining 7 Then shall the seers be ashamed, and the diviners confounded: yea, they shall all cover their lips; for there is no answer of God.*3.7 lips: Heb. upper lip

8 But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin. 9 Hear this, I pray you, ye heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel, that abhor judgment, and pervert all equity. 10 They build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity.*3.10 blood: Heb. bloods 11 The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet will they lean upon the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD among us? none evil can come upon us.*3.11 and say: Heb. saying 12 Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.
