1 Meu filho, obedece às minhas palavras;

esconde dentro de ti os meus mandamentos.

2 Cumpre os meus mandamentos e viverás;

guarda os meus preceitos como o bem mais precioso que possuis.

3 Escreve-os, para que os tenhas sempre à mão;

grava-os no teu íntimo.

4 Considera a sabedoria como uma irmã a quem amas,

como um membro querido da tua família.

5 Para que te proteja da mulher leviana,

da estranha que te procura atrair com conversas sedutoras.

6 Um dia, aproximando-me da janela da minha casa

e olhando para a rua,

7 vi um grupo de rapazes simples,

e entre eles um moço insensato,

8 que se dirigia para a casa duma dessas mulheres,

num recanto da rua.

9 Era já o fim do dia, anoitecia;

as sombras favoreciam-no.

10 E ela saiu-lhe ao encontro,

arranjada de forma provocante.

11 Com o ar ligeiro de quem nunca para em casa.

12 Daquelas que andam pelas esquinas das ruas,

nos lugares mais frequentados, procurando por todo o lado.

13 Então aproximou-se, beijou-o

e disse-lhe com descaramento:

14 "Decidi sacrificar ofertas de paz

e assim cumpri os meus votos.

15 Por isso, vim a correr à tua procura,

a saber onde estavas.

16 Olha, já fiz a cama bonitas colchas bordadas

com linho fino do Egito,

17 e perfumei-a com mirra, aloés e canela.

18 Vem já, vamo-nos saciar de amores

e gozar até de manhã.

19 Porque o meu marido não está em casa;

deve ter ido a um sítio distante.

20 Eu vi que até levou bagagem e dinheiro;

com certeza que não volta para casa antes da lua cheia."

21 E assim o seduziu, com muita conversa e palavrinhas doces;

e ele deixou-se enfeitiçar.

22 Quando vi que a seguia,

veio-me à lembrança um boi que levam para o matadouro,

ou um veado apanhado numa armadilha de caça.

23 Só lhe resta esperar que um tiro certeiro lhe atravesse o corpo;

é como a ave que corre para o sítio

onde vai ficar presa num laço,

sem pensar que estará ali o fim da sua vida.

24 Agora ouçam-me, meus filhos,

mas ouçam-me com atenção!

25 Não percam o controlo dos vossos desejos;

afastem-se delas e dos sítios por onde andam!

26 Porque têm sido a causa da ruína de muita gente;

são muitas as suas vítimas.

27 Frequentar a casa delas

é seguir o caminho que conduz à morte e ao mundo dos mortos.
