1 Reúnam-se e orem, nação sem vergonha! 2 Enquanto é tempo ainda, antes que comece esse juízo e a vossa última oportunidade de salvação desapareça como a palha ao vento; antes que a ira do Senhor caia e comece todo esse tempo de condenação. 3 Busquem o Senhor, todos os humildes da terra, que cumprem os seus mandamentos. Procurem ser sempre justos e humildes; talvez sejam poupados no dia da ira do Senhor.

4 Gaza será abandonada; Asquelom vai ser destruída; Asdode será desalojada em pleno dia; Ecrom será desarraigada. 5 E ai de vocês, filisteus, gente originária de Creta, que vivem na costa e na terra de Canaã, porque esse julgamento também é contra vocês! O Senhor vos destruirá sem deixar um só com vida. 6 Toda essa zona costeira tornar-se-á em terra de pastagem, lugar para pastores acamparem e currais para os rebanhos.

7 Aí, o pequeno resto da tribo da Judá será alimentado. À tardinha descansarão nas casas abandonadas de Asquelom, porque o Senhor, o seu Deus, tornará a visitar o seu povo, revestido de benignidade, e restaurará a sua prosperidade.

8 "Tenho prestado atenção à troça que faz a gente de Moabe e Amon, rindo-se do meu povo e tomando-lhe terras. 9 Por isso, tão certo como eu viver, diz o Senhor dos exércitos, o Deus de Israel, Moabe e Amon serão destruídos como foram Sodoma e Gomorra; tornar-se-ão em campos de ortigas, em poços de sal, em lugares de desolação eterna. O resto que ficar do meu povo tomará a terra e ocupá-la-á."

10 Mas eles receberão o salário do seu orgulho, porque humilharam o povo do Senhor dos exércitos. 11 O Senhor lhes fará coisas tremendas. Também aniquilará todos esses deuses das nações estrangeiras e todos o adorarão, cada um na sua terra, através de todo o mundo.

12 Vocês, cuchitas, serão igualmente mortos na guerra.

13 O mesmo sucederá a norte, pois ele estenderá a sua mão e destruirá a Assíria, e fará da sua grande capital, Nínive, um lugar desolado semelhante a um deserto. 14 Essa capital tornar-se-á num mero sítio de pastagens de carneiros. Toda a espécie de animais selvagens ali viverá; a coruja do deserto terá ali um abrigo; os porcos-espinhos farão moradas nos recantos dos palácios, lançando os seus pios pelas janelas escancaradas; os corvos grasnarão no umbral das portas. Todos os belos revestimentos em cedro ficarão expostos ao vento e às intempéries.

15 É este o destino da vasta e próspera cidade que vivia em tamanha segurança e que dizia de si própria: "Em todo o mundo não há cidade como eu!" Agora, vejam bem como se tornou num lugar de ruínas, um abrigo de animais selvagens! Todos os que por ali passam assobiam e fazem gestos de desprezo.

4 For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up. 5 Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea coast, the nation of the Cherethites! the word of the LORD is against you; O Canaan, the land of the Philistines, I will even destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant. 6 And the sea coast shall be dwellings and cottages for shepherds, and folds for flocks. 7 And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity.*2.7 for the LORD: or, when, etc

8 I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, whereby they have reproached my people, and magnified themselves against their border. 9 Therefore as I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them. 10 This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts. 11 The LORD will be terrible unto them: for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the isles of the heathen.*2.11 famish: Heb. make lean

12 Ye Ethiopians also, ye shall be slain by my sword. 13 And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry like a wilderness. 14 And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the cormorant and the bittern shall lodge in the upper lintels of it; their voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be in the thresholds: for he shall uncover the cedar work.*2.14 cormorant: or, pelican*2.14 upper…: or, knops, or, chapiters*2.14 for…: or, when he hath uncovered 15 This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand.
