1 AS he was passing by, Jesus saw a man who had been blind from birth.2 His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"3 Jesus answered, "Neither this man sinned nor his parents; but it was in order that the works of God might be manifested in him.4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day. Night is coming when no one can work.5 While I am in the world I am the light of the world."6 After saying this, he spit on the ground and made clay with the spittle and put the clay on the man's eyes7 and said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloamwhich means Sent." He went away and washed and came back seeing.8 His neighbors and those accustomed to see him before, when he was begging, said, "Is not this the man that sat and begged?"9 Some said, "This is he." Others said, "No, but he is like him." He said, "I am the man."10 They said to him, "How then were your eyes opened?"11 He replied, "The man called Jesus made clay and spread it on my eyes and said to me, 'Go to Siloam and wash.' I went and washed and received my sight."12 They said to him, "Where is that man?" He said, "I do not know."
